If we didn't keep Souttar like a lot of fans say they wouldn't.
Kelly as well
Sell Barron like a big percent say.
Already 2-3 players short for quota for euro so that's like 5-6 shirt what are we to do in Europe go with 19 man squad?
We need to keep the best of Scottish that we as a country have that our club can attract and afford
Who replaces Souttar with. McKenna?
Barron? McClean? Gauld?
Kelly? Clarke?
We weaken our squad without those players c'mon man there's a bigger picture that most don't take into account
I'm looking for names to replace the Scot's trained and Rangers trained players mentioned above

The lad Hamilton who plays for Dundee is a good player. He is not scared to push forward from midfield, and he has an eye for goal as well. I think he is 27 years old.
22 Feb 2026 08:58:35
Souttar could have been replaced with the young CB from Dundee, Luke Graham. No need to replace Kelly as backup. I highly doubt Barron will be sold this summer. More chance of Raskin leaving than anyone else.
Souttar breaks down with injury far too often. Those players need to go. Sadly, it looks like Sterling is another who cannot be trusted to stay fit. Ability means nothing when it is sat in the stands.
22 Feb 2026 10:25:23
Luke Graham is a left-sided centre half, and in no way, imo, would be a replacement for Souttar, RohlWithCheese. ? Souttar is nowhere near as injured as Sterling, and he hasn't missed as many games over the last couple of seasons as he did previously. I'm delighted he's signed a new contract to stay with us. ?
22 Feb 2026 11:24:02
Soapy, a no-brainer for an extension. Yes, he has a mistake in him, but his blocks alone have saved us from some doings over the years. He will probably drop down to 3rd choice with the ins and outs at the back, but still get plenty of game time.
22 Feb 2026 11:33:52
Cheese, how many games has he missed the last couple of seasons? Not many, so this 'he's always injured' is a false start.
22 Feb 2026 12:17:58
Souttar is our next captain. He will stay, as he should. Same as Barron. Sterling, unfortunately, has to be pampered like Roofe.
22 Feb 2026 12:32:44
Any Scottish keeper bench anyhoo.
Findlay, Hearts.
Barron is decent, but Devlin just as good. Other options too.
Penrice another option.
We were already light on domestic, not hard to replace guys we have.

Market - Ethan Hamilton has been a standout this season. He looks like a Rohl player. Tall and physical, but good on the ball. He was rated higher than McTominay when they were on the verge of the Man United first team. Not sure what went wrong, but I can see him getting in the Scotland squad next season.
22 Feb 2026 12:45:17
John Souttar is the best last-line defender in Scotland by a long way. His job is to make those last gasp blocks, to throw himself at the ball, to make that vital clearance. Don't expect anything else, even though he can hit a mean diagonal pass, and watch him for what he actually brings, not the Beckenbauer some seem to think he should be.
22 Feb 2026 12:47:40
Why all the need for Scottish players for Europe? We never play them. Only Barron and Souttar are getting game time, the rest are just bench fillers.
22 Feb 2026 12:53:37
Sorry, you're all correct. We need Souttar. There was no alternative. Silly me.
22 Feb 2026 12:53:46
Just to point out that, if we are talking about keeping the required number of Scots for European competition, Devlin is Australian, so while he may be a positional replacement for Barron, it would reduce our Scots by one.
There is no reason why Souttar could not be replaced by a left-footed centre back, as it is obvious that Fernandez is right-footed and could just move over.
I've also liked the look of Hamilton at Dundee, tall and aggressive, but can also play a bit.

Kelly leaves on a free in a few months, along with most of our 1st and 2nd choice defenders, who are either OOC or at the end of loans. Kelly, Wright, Tavernier, Souttar, Aarons, Djiga, Cornelius, Meghoma are all away unless some of the OOC players are offered extensions. Add other loans and OOC players, and our 1st team squad will be down roughly 12 players by the end of this season. That's before we sell several players. Summer will be one of the biggest squad rebuilds we have seen yet since returning to the top flight.
No stress though, I'm sure plenty of deals are being negotiated and finalised as this season progresses, ready in time for a flurry of summer announcements when the window opens and we can announce them all officially.
I would expect to see one of our strongest teams in a long time, and one that will romp the league and have a good run in Europe.
Until then, let's get that double done and dusted.

I've never heard anyone say sell Barron. Absolutely brilliant pre-injury. Plus, Souttar is better than most give him credit for. Some errors, for sure. If he didn't have that, he'd be elsewhere. Btw, Saliba makes errors too. Even Gough, our greatest ever defender, made errors. Time to stop constantly moaning and start supporting.
22 Feb 2026 14:49:16
Cheese, no one's saying he's amazing, but you used 'he always breaks down' as a premise for getting rid of him, not his football ability.
22 Feb 2026 15:46:32
Forever, I also like Findlay, mate. Always thought he was more than a decent defender.
I know most will say not good enough, blah blah, but I think he's a good, solid defender who could be a 4th choice for us.
Liam Lindsay is also a very good player. I'd say he's better than Findlay.
22 Feb 2026 16:26:16
Souttar has been rubbish today.
Is the club still scouting Luke Graham?
22 Feb 2026 16:27:27
Carson, I'm happy to extend that to his ability. Not good enough, and he has a history of being injured. I'd rather Rangers replaced him, but it's too late for that now.
22 Feb 2026 21:40:00
If John Souttar is our next captain, then Lord help us.
23 Feb 2026 01:21:42
Possibly we extended Souttar by 1 year as backup to the new guys coming in the summer, plus we can get a small fee for him 1mill if we can get all our defensive targets, and we need a minimum defence of GK Butland,
RB Sterling
RCB Souttar
LCB Fernandez
LB Rommens
All our other GK, RB, RCB, LCB, LB options are free agents or end of loan, with the exception of Nsiala. Wonder if Rohl tried a pairing of Fernandez as RCB and Nsiala as LCB could actually work with stronger LBs and RBs in Rommens and Sterling.
Souttar was utter mince again today and has zero chance of being captain of Rangers. His injury history on both legs has ruined his potential since he was a teen at Dundee United onwards.
He wasn't good enough for a mediocre Hearts side that released him on a free. The best last-line defender in Scotland, yet several defenders are statistically strides ahead of him and have poorer defensive partners. If he never had Fernandez (who is now officially the top-scoring CB in Europe now) beside him to save him when he gets outpaced by attackers, we would not still be chasing the title and cup. We will need a more reliable and better defender than Souttar to partner Fernandez next season if we are serious about a treble and a good run in Europe. Souttar wouldn't even get into Hearts 1st team right now. Time for John to move on. Hard to be a captain from a treatment table.
23 Feb 2026 09:20:49
Ah, mixed up with the other guy. What's the guy's name? Hearts' Scottish player who came up from England but played here as a youth. Scored the other day, I'm sure.
23 Feb 2026 12:41:06
Souttar showed yesterday why he shouldn't have got a new deal. He's just not good enough. He's cost us 4 goals in the last 3 games, is weak in the air, falls asleep, and gives away too many cheap free kicks. If he's a regular starter next season, never mind captain, then we are in big trouble.
