I don't think Messi would get near Pele for one reason: players like Messi are protected these days. He would not survive the abuse Pele or even the original Ronaldo took. Refs are too soft and seem to fear the players' celebrity status these days.

I remember watching Ronaldinho at Ibrox and being so disappointed, never seen so much play acting and rolling about in my life, was so obvious and ref still gives them the decisions. Game is gone.
