If we do indeed sign Ferguson, McCrorie, Graham and Penrice that would give the following in squad
Association trained:
Ferguson
Souttar
Barron
Graham
Penrice
Shankland
Club trained:
Kelly
McCrorie
This would mean 2 of the first 6 would miss out on Uefa squad and our overall squad size would be reduced to 23 from the max 25

Think you're misinterpreting it, mate. We need 8 players to be homegrown, a max of 4 of that 8 can be association trained. It doesn't mean we are only allowed a maximum of 4 association trained in the squad.

The association trained can be included, it just means u reduce the 17 foreign players by two in Goram's example.

17 "foreign" (neither association or club trained)
4 association trained
4 club trained
Most clubs will look to take full advantage of the 17 foreign, so that would mean 4 association trained maximum, otherwise they eat into that 17.

Yeah, but if we have 10 association trained and they're better than, say, 10 of the foreign, does it really matter if we eat into it as long as we hit our quota for 8 home grown? Curtis would be one, Kelly would be one, McCrorie would be one, probably need one more, perhaps Nathan Patterson? I'm not 100% on the ins and outs, so maybe I'm way off.

17 foreign, 4 club, 4 association. If we don't have enough of either club or association trained, then the maximum squad numbers fall, not necessarily the 17 "foreign" players. 2 club trained short then the squad is 23, another 2 association trained short then it would be 21. The 17 is unaffected. ?

You're all missing this is the minimum requirement for the A list. Minimum, you can have more than 4 club and 4 association trained in your squad of 25. It's only if you're short that the 25 falls, not the 17 foreign.

The extra home or association players in the 17 will not count if the club had already identified the 4 home and 4 association trained in the 25. They have to name the 8 places and identify the 8 to UEFA.
