I've seen a few posts around player wages that 'feel' over inflated to me, so thought i could help explain why what's online is often inaccurate.

Most online databases rely on media leaks, speculation, and guesswork as football clubs are private entities and do not publish pAyroll details.

Unlike US sports leagues like the NFL or NBA, where salaries are public record, European football keeps its financial contracts strictly confidential.

Most websites listing weekly salaries often present an inflated, distorted view of what players actually earn as they bundle everything into a single, simplified weekly rate.

Websites often take the maximum potential value of a contract (often leaked by agents as its beneficial to them and the players) and divide it by the number of weeks.

This method is flawed as they often include signing-on fees, which when spread across the contract length in online reporting, inflate the apparent weekly wage.

They often also include performance add-ons which are triggered only by specific milestones, such as winning a trophy or qualifying for the Champions League.

And can even include things appearance bonuses and loyalty bonuses.

Also, some are just completely made up.

I've always found the clamor to know what any individual's wage is to be a bit unseemly.

Totally understand what you are saying Ehl, for example, I went to school with someone who played for us in the early 2000s. I know he was on a basic of around £5k a week, but with appearance, goal, win bonus (and a few other things) could be up to around £10k a week. So yes, it's very difficult to know actual weekly wages, and probably, as you say, most figures that get banded about are 'top line' rather than basic.

Still, with some of our higher earners such as Tav, Matondo, Davies and hopefully others leaving, hopefully there will be a fair amount freed up in terms of wages for new recruits.

Ehl, at some point it becomes public knowledge.

Rfc22, at what point is that?

EHL, it would be when the player's bank announces the amount of his salary which goes into his account. ??? All guesswork as you say and there just to give fans a stick to beat a player they don't like with.

It's usually the basic wages that get mentioned on these sites, not the bonuses.
