It has been suggested for a while that next season captain would be a new signing. Don't get me wrong, I am not suggesting that will be Shankland.

Anyone think that if we had signed him last summer, we would have won the treble? Fewer dropped points v Hearts, two wins over the rotten mob in the cups. We sure would have been in a better position. I think some of the Purdie, Thelwell, Stewart transactions will turn out well for us, but bringing Martin in was a monumental disaster.

Shanks may not start all games, so I'd say club vice captain is best position for him.

Shankland is coming to Rangers to play in our starting 11, Stevie G, not on the subs bench, mate. ? He's not going to give up playing every week at Hearts, as their captain, to sit on our bench for a good few of our games, and especially as he's now almost 31 years old. ?

You're just doing that thing you always do at transfee windows, and going too far with signings.
Shanks is a very good player and will play more games than he won't.
However, he's probably 2nd choice as of now. Up to him from here, same as everyone else.
He'd make a fine club captain, btw. I'm not against it, I just see him maybe as vice captain.

If not captain, then certainly vice captain. I doubt he's coming to sit on the bench. He seems to have wanted this for years & perhaps arranged a clause specifically for a move like this.
As for being 2nd, I wudnt be so sure of that, & a lot will depend on what formation Dr goes with. If we're playing 2 up top, then I'm suggesting he starts most games alongside Chermiti unless Chermiti goes.

Absolutely he should be Captain. Who else is going to be Captain? I agree also, he will start most games for us. Why would he not? Are we that flaming good we can afford to leave him on the bench? I think not. Let's just hope we see more dig next season, as we were far too weak and defeatist all season.

I heard this news from a family member a couple of hours ago and checked in here to see if it was true. A wonderful player, scores goals from nothing, Rangers man and natural leader and Captain. Fabulous news and good luck to him.
