Between the post I've just read from Ibrox4me and John's reply to one of my earlier posts about fitness, I agree something doesn't quite add up.
I'm at a loss as to why, as a club, we seem to get more wrong than we do right.
2012 is well behind us now. We're run by businessmen with money and influence, so while I don't expect miracles overnight, I do expect progression both on and off the park. The question is: has that progression met expectations, or are we still falling short in key areas?
At the end of the day, the big question is this:
Does Danny Röhl have it in him to build a winning squad this summer, with the backing of those above him? Can they actually put together a winning formula?
There can't be any excuses going into the new season.
Hearts have built a squad that looks capable of challenging for the title whether they do it or not, they're in the race. We're not, unless something spectacular happens like both Hearts and Celtic losing every game while we win all ours ?. So yes, there's always hope
I'll lay out my own thoughts: I'd love Danny to prove me wrong, but right now my head says we'll still be lacking under him. I'm not convinced he fully understands the club yet.
Can he turn that around over the summer? I can only hope.

Danny won't be responsible for building the squad.

It's a big fat no from me.

Anyone know who our next captain will be?

Ehl,
In your opinion, do the current ownership share what has quickly become a serious momentum to quickly build a core of Scotsmen?
Are they aware that's what Rangers success has always been centred around?

Ehl? I've never understood what you've just posted. Rohl has no input into which players we sign. Someone picks the players we sign, and Rohl is expected to mould them into a winning team? Very bizarre.

Lost every big game under him. We are papering over the cracks and delaying the inevitable. ?

Whatsmyname, Rohl, as Head Coach, will be part of the transfer committee, however, he will not have complete control.
There may be signings that the rest of the committee agree on that he doesn't, and there may be transfers that he wants that the rest don't.
It's a pretty common set up.

I mentioned this in a post a few days back.
Replies were Rohl would get his own players in this window.
I thought differently and was sure he would manage the players brought in, as you say, EHL, he may have input but not overall control.
So the big question is, can Danny Rohl gel a team together with the players he's given, with whatever input he will get?
So the debate on he deserves to get his own players in and then be judged is really null and void?
As it won't entirely be his players?
Am I correct in thinking that??

Had the exact same thought yesterday, Stig, but I suppose that works both ways as they aren't totally his players, so why would he get all the blame. It's a tricky one mate. I think it would be unfair to sack any manager that hasn't had a preseason to get his ideas across.
Whether he can turn it around, I'm unsure, but he needs time to show he can/can't. It's only fair.

There is another way to look at it as well, Stig. Some posters have been seeing we need a leader, a proper manager, not a coach. Will a "proper" manager accept not picking his players?
The reality is this is the model most clubs use now and it works.
The club messed the summer up and it resulted in heads rolling. Bringing in 4 in January almost patched that job up, but this could be a blessing in disguise as we will most likely see major outgoings and incomings as a result of the failure.
Rangers have not had a proper 6 since Steve Davis, limited creativity since the loss of players like Aribo and Kent (yes poor last couple seasons), no goal-scoring midfielder since Arfield left, and have not had a leader in defence since Goldson left.
We will see a full new defence and goalkeeper, I expect. Probably a full new midfield as I expect both Dio and Raskin to move on. The wings will be replaced as well as Moore won't be back, Olsen option won't be taken up and I think Antman will be gone as he won't want another season on the bench.
Then you're looking at at least one of the strikers leaving, most likely Miovski and possibly Chermiti.
