Rohlwithcheese. I've told this story on here a couple of times about how my young cousin was stabbed to death in front of my eyes by a Celtic fan on way home from an Old Firm game. I actually hated that man for a at least 10 years, to the point it was all consuming taking over my full life, thinking about him constantly from the moment I got up in the morning to the minute I went to bed. That's hatred mate, for you to suggest that even one of our fans hate Tavernier, just because as you say you saw people tell him to f off and abuse him in the stadium.

That's maybe because they don't rate him as a player, or possibly don't like him as a person, but to suggest it's hatred is just absolute nonsense mate. Most people will never fully understand hatred until they actually truly hate someone. Isreal and palestine that's hatred. Hatred gets threw around like the word legend, far to loosely.

Yes, some don't understand the meaning of some words.

My thoughts are with you and your family. God bless him, my friend.

25 Apr 2026 13:17:58
Excellent point BB, ? ? it's ? u had to experience that bud. ?

25 Apr 2026 13:20:21
My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family, my friend. ❤️

Hatred is used in all the wrong ways now.

25 Apr 2026 13:24:32
The word is too easily thrown about these days and I am sorry you and your family had to go through that, BB4.

25 Apr 2026 14:13:27
A terrible burden to bare for all these years, BB4, and I'm truly sorry for you and your family that you have had to suffer such pain. As you say, we all have to try to put things in their proper context.

25 Apr 2026 14:18:49
Guys, thanks for the kind words, but I wasn't looking for any kind of sympathy, as 90% of you on here already knew what happened. I was just trying to explain the difference between hatred and being high on emotions after bad results and swearing at one of our own players. I honestly can't believe I'm having to explain this tbh.

25 Apr 2026 15:07:40
Boy blue, agree mate. Too many are too ready to have a rant after a bad result, add a few shandies and even friends have been known to fall out, and sometimes the word hatred gets thrown in.

25 Apr 2026 17:36:53
Explain what? That anything short of a knife attack can't be classed as hateful? That's utter nonsense and we even have hate crime laws in this country that prove hate can be non-violent. You can be arrested for hate for online comments in Scotland.

You seen someone with a knife, one of your friends died.

I sympathise, especially as someone who has lost many, many friends to drugs and violence in this city. Is this the forum to talk about people in Glasgow dying? No, it has nothing to do with the James Tavernier situation.

25 Apr 2026 19:07:29
BB4, my heart goes out to you that you had to experience this in your life.
It must have been, and still is, horrifying for you and your family.
John, I say this with the greatest respect to you, as I know from your involvement on this site that you're a very decent person.
When you say words as in plural, are you referring to some people who don't understand the word Legend if they interpret the word and the player's contribution differently from yourself.

Surely people are allowed to have different interpretations without being told they have a lack of understanding of the English language.

25 Apr 2026 19:48:49
Firstly, if you had read the post you would see it was a cousin, not a friend. Secondly, where in my post did I say anything short of a knife attack can't be described as hateful? The only person mentioning such a thing was you.

Thirdly, I'll post anything I want to post on here. You don't have a say in what I post. If you don't like it, scroll on. Simple.

25 Apr 2026 19:51:38
CO2, I don't know if I wrote something in plural. I have one eye.

At no time have I entered this discussion on legend, so not sure someone can have a different opinion than me.

25 Apr 2026 20:09:30
Sorry to hear that BB4. That must have been horrific to see.

Rohlwithcheese, "hate speech" laws are absolute nonsense and an affront to the concept of a free society.

I'd say the charlatans who coined them "hate" speech they cannot control and are every bit responsible for the watered down definition and free form use of the word itself.

25 Apr 2026 20:41:33
No problem, John.
Maybe I've picked you up wrong.
I had felt when you had said -
"some don't understand the meaning of some words," you were referring back to the word Legend which had been a hot topic.
Please accept my apologies if I've picked up on this wrongly.

As I said, I know you're a very decent person, and I have all the respect for your great contribution on this site, otherwise I probably wouldn't have pointed out what I had thought was a flippant comment regarding others' interpretation.

25 Apr 2026 20:41:52
The hate speech rules in this country are a complete and utter joke. People getting longer in jails than paedophiles etc. One of the many reasons why this country is a complete and utter mess.

25 Apr 2026 20:56:49
No matter what we post, everyone will have a story to tell. We all think our situations are unique, but it's scary to think of the future.
My wife has Frontal Lobe syndrome which we thought was strange as it was the same as her dad who a footballer in the old fashioned times and headed the old fashioned heavy leathered balls, so all I can say is enjoy the moments.

????

25 Apr 2026 22:01:14
I've lost family members too, blue boy. Believe it or not, you are not an authority on what is and is not hate just because someone you know experienced misfortune.

This thread is one of the stupidest I have ever read on this forum. Do me the favour of not involving me in nonsense like this in the future.

Was James Tavernier hated by a section of the Rangers fans? Yes. Get over it.

25 Apr 2026 23:31:30
Not going to lie, that reply from RohlWithCheese is a stinker. Up there with some of the worst I've read. Not in terms of the content, but the absolute lack of accuracy on the previous content.

BB4 was highlighting consumption in terms of constant thoughts was equal to hate. BB4, I hope you take what I'm about to say with as minimal crap as possible, but the guy who done that probably had zero hatred towards BB4's family member.

It was probably a hatred of the club or even just wrong place, wrong time.

To also try to stipulate what others can and should speak about is a stupid statement to make, as last time I checked there are mods on this site who will deem what is and is not acceptable to post. If I want to post about the shade of my big toe after stubbing it, then it's up to the mods to decide if that's ok or not. Not any of us.

25 Apr 2026 23:42:52
BB, u know my ol dad had a shop in possil and i have many friends from there, so I've always had a soft spot for you

your cuz is flying high now, his attacker is living a putrid existence

my points, too much to understand for a couple, is that Tavs story is and will be a legend, it will be spoken of in many years to come, and may indeed never be beaten

that's the stuff of legend, whatever you think of the man and his playing ability is a separate personal thing

his story will be legendary without question, it's unheard of here

26 Apr 2026 04:09:58
Of course Ayrshire, all good mate.
Tom, I'm personally in the camp of some will, some won't, each to their own.
