With the Tav debate on being a legend or not. He has won one league title.
Our manager Stevie G won 55 with him is he considered a legend as Rangers manager?

I know tavs goals and longevity etc but both have only one title each just interested what other fans think.

People know my thoughts on Stevie G so I won't bore you with all that again.

Storm, James Tavernier would have won much more with very good Rangers players beside him, opposed to some mediocre players he was playing with at Rangers in his time at Rangers, and that simply ain't Tav's fault. ? How can some not digest that. ?

23 Apr 2026 15:50:19
Harry Kane a legend at Spurs and won nothing as did a lot of players for clubs, his goals and assists alone, as well as always being available, his Euro run for us was amazing, to be fair, so although I've given him stick from time to time he's a legend for club.

23 Apr 2026 15:50:19
How many times can you be a legend?

Gerrard was already one long before he came to Rangers.

Imagine being a double legend, that would be legendary.

23 Apr 2026 15:57:02
Yes trophies are what we are all about. But in Tavs case, just look at his stats. He will go down in the history books. But for some on here, he didn't win enough? Go back and look at some of the legends in the game that didn't win much. For me the Harry Kane example is a good one.

Tav is a legend. His appearances, goals, assists are phenomenal and probably won't be matched. So to me he's a legend, and I would love to see him walk away into the sunset with another winners league medal. He deserves it.

You could say that about any football player though, Sws.
He won 3 trophies in 3 different seasons in his time at Rangers.
Are you saying those other 7 years, every player around him was mediocre?
If you are putting him on a pedestal as a great player, then with that status and along with him being captain, then surely he could have led by example and driven the team on at times to further glory.

For example, in the title winning season, he was part of the team that capitulated to both St Mirren and St Johnstone in the cups.

What I'm saying, MPH, he's only one man. ? He's played with a helluva lot of mediocre players, and probably at one of the lowest Barron years in our illustrious history, that undoubtedly has to be taken into account for me anyway. ? ??

23 Apr 2026 16:48:20
What about all the teams who don't win trophies regularly? Are those teams not allowed to have legends?

I get the older guys don't think Tav is a legend, and it's an opinion thing in any event. But I would suspect the majority of younger fans see him that way, as he has been a top performer at the club for over a decade, captain for 5 years, 500 appearances and 300 goal contributions.

If those things don't make him a legend, I don't see how we have any legends.

23 Apr 2026 16:50:05
Tav has been a true servant to Rangers. He has stayed through highs and lows and quietly taken criticism and graciously taken praise. For me, Tav is a Rangers legend, Hall of Famer and a loyal captain.

Though I'm sad to see him leave, now is probably a good time as he hasn't been starting every game. Let's leave on a high - thanks for everything Captain. ?

23 Apr 2026 16:55:05
Anybody who can't appreciate what Tav has done for our club over his 11-year tenure is, in my opinion, being hyper critical and unrealistic.

23 Apr 2026 17:05:18
TommyGun, Kevin Crunchie McAllistar is a legend at Falkirk, mate, he won the Championship.

23 Apr 2026 17:06:09
Did Davie Cooper not just win 6 trophies at Rangers? Tav could leave this season with 4 majors inc lower league stuff, with a European final and European top scorer under his belt. As EHL said earlier, it's up to the individual who they class as a legend.

23 Apr 2026 17:10:26
Stevie Gerrard is not a Rangers legend. Unlike a player, a manager should be judged on trophies. 55 was amazing, but doesn't make him a legend.

23 Apr 2026 17:29:59
That's what I mean, Star, clubs have legends that have won very little but have been excellent players for them over long periods of time.

Good point, Kaiser, I agree that you could judge a manager against team performances and results.

Not necessarily winning things, as that depends on the club. But, to judge an individual player on the team's performance as a whole is not a fair judgement, in my opinion.

23 Apr 2026 17:35:17
Tommy, I was getting your meaning, mate.

23 Apr 2026 17:40:35
Alan Shearer is a Newcastle United legend and won nothing at that club. imo it's not about what you win, although that helps, but a multifaceted status. The main question is titles/trophies, and it's clear that it's not the main driver in legend status as there are hundreds of legendary players that have not won a great deal.

Tav is a legend who just happened to join the worst Rangers team and had the worst managers in history.

23 Apr 2026 18:05:42
Paulo DiCanio won nothing at Celtic, and he is considered a legend at their club. That was a period when Rangers were dominating Scottish football, and they had plenty players like Cadete and Hooijdonk, etc. I don't think a player needs to win anything to be considered a legend. It's not mandatory.

Every time Rangers sign full-backs who put in a good cross, or start scoring a few goals, comparisons to Tavernier will be drawn.

This will happen for decades. He is part of the fabric of this football club now.

In the wider context of world football, his goal scoring is historic. If you put together a team of the highest scoring players in every position, Tavernier would be RB. I think he is the highest scoring RB in the history of the sport.

23 Apr 2026 18:07:54
Tav is a legend in my book, player for over 10 years, Europa League final.

23 Apr 2026 19:17:21
Paul McStay won 3 titles in 16 years and regarded one of their best ever.

23 Apr 2026 19:20:49
3 cheers, SG is not a Rangers legend, so I don't get your point at all.

Coops, I was coming back on to make the point, but Mph has already beaten me to it.

Paul, I did say in that exact post it's up to the individual, maybe you missed that.

For what it's worth, neither will ever be viewed as Rangers legends.

23 Apr 2026 20:29:19
Tavernier is classed as more of a legend than not just now, but wait until 10/20 years down the line, then it's a different story, a Rangers rb with around 300 goal contributions and the top scoring defender in British football history.
