Think reading through today's post, people need to take breaks from social media. Whether that's a day, a week, a month or even longer. Not good to be constantly on it.

18 Apr 2026 00:01:21
Orange, I used to give my kids a row for being on their phones constantly, even at meals and watching a movie at night together.

Now I do it.

Social media companies hire psychologists to help their apps target the same pleasure receptors in the brain as drugs do.

Also reading newspapers can Blume etc, calculators, alarm clocks, cameras and so on means we're in our phones at every cut n turn, mate, so end up nipping onto Instagram or this site, personally I don't use Facebook but most do.

You're right though, phone addiction is an epidemic level problem these days.

18 Apr 2026 00:11:12
100 percent Stevie, it is dire with how addicted everyone is. I was also talking about people end up having a bad day in general from it, like arguing constantly on places like here.

18 Apr 2026 00:22:43
Yeah mate, or maybe having a bad n real life n come on here n act the goat.

I've done it too, mate.

When I've had a drink I dread coming on the next day in case I've made an arse of myself hahah.

18 Apr 2026 00:42:13
Easy solution. Get a phone that is what they were made for. Speaking to people one to one. The internet was created with good intentions but is now used badly. What would some do without them.

18 Apr 2026 03:12:51
Bill, that's what I had when I used to give the kids a row for being the n it at times that there wasn't any need to be, then if I look up and the missus at the time was doing the same.

What u meant to say to kids when adults are doing the same.

I ended up joining the iPhone club and now I'm just as bad.

18 Apr 2026 05:45:27
Using a phone is a bit like VAR, it's not the phone, it's the idiots using it. ?

18 Apr 2026 06:51:27
Give yourself a wee break then Fork. ??

18 Apr 2026 07:03:27
I feel sorry for the younger generations, as they have now been brought up to think it's completely normal for a wee handheld device to lead you through life. It's nuts, the amount of folk whose phone spends most of its life in its owners' hands, getting used to scrolling through mountains of meaningless s***.
I must be in a very low percentage of the population who only use their phone to talk with people. I have never used Facebook, Twitter, etc., and the only social media that I use is on here.

It's sad times when you go to the pub, and you have adults sitting at the bar with their phones in their faces watching TikTok videos, in search of the best video so that they can show you it like they have accomplished something.
Not for me, thankfully, as there are far more better options widely available for frying your brain, rather than a phone.

18 Apr 2026 07:47:20
I have noticed that many older peeps are on social media constantly, who I thought would have been immune to it. Changed days, good to leave the phone on the sideboard and get out there and be free!

18 Apr 2026 07:54:00
That's remembered, Star. ????

18 Apr 2026 07:56:09
Three Cheers, u probably watch TV a lot though? Most people do.

Kids now just watch it all on the phone, the entertainment content they look for isn't on the telly.

Even books now are read on handheld devices.

Schools are loaning kids iPad type devices to do homework.

The people running these massive corporations want kids hooked on computers. They want them all reliant on AI for every little thing they can possibly think of.

It won't be long now til GP's are replaced with AI versions. The world is only going to get more and more technology driven and ran as we go forward, so it's essential for people to know how to use and constantly have these devices.

Eventually it'll be a chip in the brain as Musk has developed with Neuralink, and probably the phone will be in your arm or hand or something like that.
We are literally merging computers and humans now. It's not online tinfoil hat stuff I'm speaking, it's literally happening before our eyes, and cause we see it happening slowly over time it's just normal and not the big shocking realisation it should be.

18 Apr 2026 08:02:09
Fork, only having a laugh, mate.

I don't use Facebook or just about any social network, except on here.

18 Apr 2026 08:11:14
I know bud. ??

18 Apr 2026 08:28:04
The only time that I watch TV, Stevie, is if there is a sporting event that interests me being broadcast. I learned a long time ago that the mainstream media broadcasting companies are run by the government and are there to brainwash you with whatever the government wants placed inside your head and 100% best avoided.

Things like the 6, 9 or 10 o'clock news etc would be better named the half an hour of complete lies and scare mongering shows.
If I'm in the house and in the mood for watching something, then my go to source of entertainment is YouTube.

18 Apr 2026 09:25:03
Social media is causing more problems than any good, especially in the younger generation. Some of the studies coming out now are frightening.

18 Apr 2026 10:03:25
Three Cheers, you're absolutely right, mate.

I like my apps rather than telly. Watch a lot of box sets.

Netflix, though, is really really bad for what u are describing. Absolutely off the scale with it, mate.

18 Apr 2026 10:17:22
Aye right cheers, what about the 10 minute Freeview after 12? ??

18 Apr 2026 12:01:54
I agree, OT.

I always liked this forum as it didn't 'feel' like social media - which I have to use for my job and absolutely hate as it's toxic beyond belief, especially when posting about women or girls football.

You can clearly see that the pressure of the title run in is having an impact on here though, as there's more handbags here than the Barras.
