With the new winger offside rule in play in the Canadian league. I've just read that as long as any goal scoring part of the attacking players body is I'm line with the SECOND defender then it's onside. I thought it was last defender. Can anyone confirm this, surely if it is the 2nd defender then it's still easy to make a player offside.

I did initially think this would speed up vat decisions if was last defender but if indeed is second defender it will probably take longer with camera angles being blocked by players and determining who the 2nd last defender is. Can anyone confirm is it last or 2nd last defender.

Won't the last defender be the keeper?

I've not got a clue what they are doing, but the way I see it is, no matter what the rules are, there are always going to be close calls and it will make no difference. There are always going to be decisions, no matter what rules are in place, that will come down to millimeters.

Bluebear is correct. When they say 'second defender' they mean the 'second last player of the defending team'. Of course it's likely to be keeper and defender that are the last two, but they can't say that, as there is a chance that there could be two defenders on the line behind the keeper, and they would then be the 1st and '2nd' defender.

You're just taking the word 'defender' too literally.

1st defender is generally regarded as the goalkeeper, although there can be exceptions e.g. when he is way out his goal area.

Ahh, Ok, I never thought of that with the keeper and did take the word defender too literally, so it is originally how I thought. Think it will be good for the game.

I think it's a good rule as benefit goes to the attacker, but it will still come down to millimetres of clear space at times on VAR.

The first time it benefits us, we will be loving it. The first time it works against us, we will be fuming. We are a fickle bunch, us football fans.

We must stop the VAR clowns adjusting it to suit like they did to us at St Mirren, blatant cheating and they were so stupid they thought nobody would notice.
