Big slim Jim Baxter

Three cheers, excellent. I always think camera speeds these days must be different, as players don't seem to glide across the pitch like Baxter did. I can't think of anyone who looks that graceful these days.

{Ed001's Note - Mousa Dembele did Angus, he really did glide across the field. Beautiful player to watch, such a shame he wasted so much of his career at Spurs!}

He was long before my time, Angus, but he must have been some player. You should have seen me on holiday, looking very graceful, gliding gracefully around the pool table, steaming, getting gubbed with a big smile on my coupon. ?

Very classy player, I never had the chance to see him playing, but I've only heard really positive things about him, ma auldman loved him.

Glad u clarified its was the Spurs one Ed.

{Ed001's Note - yeah there were about 4 around at one time!}

He was my idol as a wee boy. Will never be another Slim Jim.

Yip Slim Jim Baxter before my time, but the clips I've seen of him show what a brilliant midfielder he was, a true Rangers great. ???

Never saw the man play, but my old man used to tell me stories about him regularly. My old man grew up with him. I've only seen him on video, and what a player he looked, well ahead of his time.

Between the ages of 12 and 16 I was fortunate enough to see Baxter in his pomp, including my first Wembley in 1967. Then again, he had Caldow and McKinnon at his back and Millar, Brand, and Wilson in front of him! Wonderful, cherished memories that I am privileged to have.

Ed - Dembele was a very good player as well but Baxter reminded me of how easy it is made to look when you have that skill and composure.

3 cheers I have been gliding like that on holiday with a few beers in me. that is until I trip toe my own feet and fall flat on my face ?. wife also tells me I ain't actually gliding but staggering. I thought they were the same granted

Jim Baxter was simply the best. I was honoured to call him a friend. After he retired, he worked in his pub on Paisley Rd West. He was always found holding court about his career.

He had a very good mate, George Stewart, who was also a terrific player and drinking buddy.

Fortunate to see Jim Baxter play for his Rangers career and Scotland games. First away Scotland match was England at Wembley in 1967, and will never forget his keepy-up and nutmegging Alan Ball. Was part of a great team.
