14 years ago we nearly lost our club is remember so well that wee rat Whyte on the front stairs surrounded by polis reading a statement about how wed be stronger from his actions. We had the relegation the Green fiasco then the king consortium taking over before appointing Gerrard and 55 we've had seville since then with phil gio beale all in charge and now hopefully the start of better times with the 49s and Danny Rohl.

It really has been the longest 14 years but also the shortest looking at all that's happened so let's get right behind the team for tomorrow and hopefully 3 points.

After all this time, I finally think the club is on the right track with the 49ers and Rohl, but unfortunately, after this season there's no automatic qualification to the Champions League. Yes, I know this isn't a given this season, so I hope future signings can at least give us a fighting chance to get through the qualifiers.

I think so too Davie, even if this season doesn't work out, the shift towards young talent is a way for the club to grow. The potential fees from a good young player being sold on are too good to pass up. The older, journeyman signings were not doing much for us anyway.

Davie, Champions League is outwith our level now. We need to face facts; we are years off being competitive in that company. Europa League is where we belong. It loathes me to say it, but it's true.

In saying that, winning the league is everything, and wherever the European cards fall, we try our best.

Champions League is where the big money is, and whilst I agree we are not at that level, it will allow us to attract better quality players in the summer if we win the league and qualify. We might take a few pastings along the way, but if we can get back to qualifying regularly again, it will help us stay within financial rules as we look to continue to improve the quality of players we attract year after year.

With a successful player trading model, who knows where we will be in 5 years. Hopefully dominating domestically and being competitive at the top table.

Now I'm not saying we're at CL level, but qualification could be. What happens after then, who knows, but we'd get the riches, let's say, for qualifying. 49ers never took us over for no reason. They want exposure in Europe to get the big-money commercial deals.

They have fully backed us, and believe by summer transfer, winter transfer, then summer transfer again, we may be in a place to fight on all fronts successfully.

I agree that our league standard means that we are nowhere near ready for the CL. I also worry that regularly qualifying would reduce the coefficient earning ability.
Personally, I'd maybe prefer next season to drop to the Europa, hopefully have a good run that can build a healthier coeff & team confidence, etc., ready for a sustained future assault on the top competition on a long-term basis.

On another note. Great to see PC doing so well at Norwich. I really believe he was just with us at the wrong time. I always thought he was decent.
