Angus not wishing to join in Tav bashing but just because u asked a few times now. Don't know MPHs source but have a look at OddAlerts website for detailed player performance. Can't see an overall season average but gives in depth match by match performance stats.
Can't be bothered adding it up myself but Just having a scroll through it shows around 19 times possession lost would be pretty accurate.

Hi Kaiser.
I use Sofascore.
You can get stats per match or season averages for all comps ( except LC ).

Hi Aphelion. If Naderi is so good, why is he still in German 3rd division?
30 Jan 2026 11:52:58
Cheers MPH. Will have a nosey later. ?.
30 Jan 2026 12:10:30
Thanks both. I am just truly interested in it and for other players as well as a comparison. MPH you keep saying it but the figure you use is so close to the unsuccessful pass rate that it seemed to be that and that would be wrong unless he makes 100 passes a game, and he doesn't. dat firms don't use every unsuccessful pass as being lost possession. they differentiate between a "failed pass" (inaccurate delivery) and a "turnover" (the opposition gaining control of the ball). loads of other reasons why it isn't as well. so if that is the figure then it is wrong
The sites I found said average of 9. even an AI search showed that same figure. I have used sofascore before but never found that lost possession. i'm away to have a look. ?.

Just had a look on sofascore and it is there. you should be aware though they use really broad criteria to explain when possession is lost in comparison to Opta for instance.
so they count incomplete passes, clearances, bad touches, miscontrols, unsuccessful dribbles, incomplete crosses, or even being offside.
so if he takes a corner and it results in a goal kick, if he takes a throw and we don't keep possession due to miscontrol; if he takes a free kick and doesn't score ?. as he takes most of ours it is a little harsh. but at least I know now and can compare to that. thanks.

How's it harsh?
You and others big up his attacking prowess when making excuses for his defensive frailties.
But we are now supposed to give him a bit of leeway on stats because he takes all the free kicks, corners and throw ins?
I've said it before.
Tav has been a good servant.
Excellent penalty taker.
But defensively a scare.
And his legs are now gone which makes him even more of a liability.
But that's only my opinion.
Others are welcome to theirs.

sorry for comparison so people know the closest player I can think who takes most set pieces is Bruno Fernandes and his average this season is 15.9 ?.
30 Jan 2026 13:15:25
You don't need Data to know that tav can't defend.
30 Jan 2026 13:18:02
yes the fact takes all the throw ins has largely impacted his 139 goals and 146 assists (crazy stats by the way)
Leeway? When has james Tavernier ever had leeway? He's one of the most disliked and slagged off players on here and has been called past it during a season he scored 24 goals and 12 assists in 58 games.

Tbh I find a lot of the stats and data stuff confusing and misleading and can be used to suit but still interesting. Generally prefer to judge by what I can see instead.
30 Jan 2026 13:44:52
My argument isn't that he can defend; my argument is that the managers we have had haven't wanted him to defend but to be more of an attacking full back. the amount of and percentage of appearances every season is evidence of that.
Sofa score stats are all encompassing for example they count a corner which is headed clear by a defender as a loss of possession. they count a mis control by the receiver of the pass as a loss of possession. at least with me showing this to be the case as you say people can actually make their own mind up rather than just seeing a high figure with no context. Using Fernandes as a comparator is also a way for people to judge.
consider that Trent Arnold lost possession according to sofa score more than 45 times last season in 3 games and he played for the EPL champions.
I have said that Tavs time is up but using figures without context is misleading.

I would take Bruno at RB over Tav?.
30 Jan 2026 14:53:16
Is that the big pipe smoking dug MPH???.
30 Jan 2026 14:54:47
Tav has been a great signing for RFC. Great goal return for a defender and some amazing assists, buuuttttt the boy flew past him last night. Left him behind. Then the farce with Butland. I'm not on the wine now and see things clearly. Tav was too slow vs their attacker. Sterling would have caught him, but he's roofe in disguise. Always injured. We need a fully fit, fast and agile young right back. Tav would be better as a sub coming on as a mid fielder, if he stays. He's too slow now to bomb up and down the wing the way he used to 5 years ago.
Age catches up to us all. He's just not quick enough now. Davie Weir played into his 40s with us and never went past the halfway line. He defended and didn't bother about trying to be involved in every throw in, free kick and penalty. He stayed back and did his job because he knew he was slow. We've got a good new left back. A new winger and a new mid. We still need 2 defenders and a striker. We got beat last night by a squad worth almost 500 million, so not as bad as it could have been. Let's just bash Hibs and win the league.

Angus u well illustrate my point in choosing how to use stat sites like this to suit an argument. They don't give context just numbers. It Just depends if u like it and want to accept the stats they use of not.
30 Jan 2026 16:27:40
MPH we agree I would take Bruno over Tav but he still wouldn't be able to defend any better ?. and he would lose the ball just as often.
