If we had gone out and tried to sign some Scottish players and get some sort of core identity back, would we have had a stronger (or equally as poor! ) squad with the like of:
1. Nathan Paterson over Aarons
2. Scott McKenna over Djiga
3. James Penrice over Meghoma
4. Lennon Miller (or Kenny McLean) over Rothwell
5. Shankland over Aasgaard
6. Bowie or Nisbett over Miovski (or more likely Dessers / Danilo / Chermiti / Diakiati?)
It gets tougher in terms of forwards but interested to know any thoughts?
I am not sure we are better off defence through midfield.

Would have liked Doig, Max Johnstone and Mulligan.
Shankland on a free would have been good business during a rebuild but don't think he would come as 3rd choice.
Agree would rather have had Patterson on loan than Aarons, shame can't send him back and get Patterson or go and just buy Johnstone.

From what I am reading today, with both of them on the move, I would have preferred a move for Ryan Jack over Kenny McLean! And just for clarity, I don't think we should be signing Ryan Jack!

I think Miovski will be a good player for us. Just in the door so will take a couple games.
Meghoma looks a player, shame he is on loan, definitely potential there.
Nathan Paterson too injury prone.
Lennon Miller should have been signed. 100%.
What we need is a new manager, its an embarrassment at the moment.

Miovski over Bowie (who hasn't had one good goalscoring season yet not saying he won't but he hasn't and KN is a hard no.

Some good points made there, I wouldn't sign McKenna over anyone else to be honest! Aasgaard will be a good signing but as I've said on many occasions, I would have signed Shankland regardless. Nathan Paterson on loan, whether or not with an option, should have been a no-brainer.

Don't agree with you ghaz regarding miovski my friend ?Miovski for me better than shankland, nisbet and at this moment in time better than kieron bowie, although i would have signed bowie instead of chermiti ?
Miovski is a good striker, proven in this league and will score goals for rangers, i've no doubt ?.

Read the post! IF, IF we had gone down the route of Scottish, considering some of the options I mentioned would likely have been a lot cheaper or the same eg max Johnston went to search for about the same as we paid for Fernandez, would we have been better or worse?
Also stormtrooper, aasgaard played in pretty much the same position shankland did all last season, just a different style
The point of the post is really what is English or European always better? Is it better?

SWS - I agree miovski will hopefully do well. Not suggesting he won't, an can't have a team from of Scot's as no one else does, just stating that we seem to pretty much rule out Scottish opps!

Ghazz and Shankland was terrible last season also that is not his position he is striker. Shankland is never a 10 in a million years and the manager that played him there got sacked ?.

Ghazz it was a good post to have a debate with but as soon as you get replies you go defensive. It's hard for Rangers to sign some players here because all clubs hate us and inflate the fees.

It's not in my opinion it's in every managers opinion bar one guy that got sacked that is a FACT ? I wasn't given you any advice at all.

I would have signed Patterson on loan over Aarons and also would have taken Shankland on a free but not instead of Antman . Not sure either Miller or McKenna would have come to us for different reasons.
I agree to an extent about Bowie and Penrice but I think we should have had the foresight to pick them up before they signed for Hibs and Hearts for almost nothing but we would end up paying millions a year later.
I like the look of Bowie but his wonder strike apart he doesn't seem to be scoring many goals.

A good post ghazz and I get what you're saying, although some of the players aren't like for like comparisons. Personally, I would like to see us sign more Scots and all the good Rangers teams I can remember had a core group of them. I think there is a snobbery around signing players from our league and I don't understand why. It's not a coincidence that Cameron has shown up as one of our better signings so far this summer and likewise Barron came in and played well yesterday.

I went to watch hearts in 2024 against st Johnstone on 4th March (check date if you like) strictly to keep a mate company. I can assure you, shankland was playing as a ten with Genelly as a 9.
