Bumped into an old friend who works at Auchenhowie last night. Apparently the decision was made at executive level several weeks ago that regardless of results or performances McInnes will be given at least the 2026/2027 season as manager. Jim Gillespie and AC believe the issues at Rangers lie deeper than the manager.

Between this window and the next there could be a mass exodus of players surplus to requirement although contractual agreements may make it difficult to shift certain players prior to the end of this window. Hope everyone is well and we can get through this difficult time 🇬🇧

29 Aug 2026 09:50:00
Hope this is true.

29 Aug 2026 10:09:11
It's as plain as the nose on our faces that there is a much deeper issue.

I hope any manager, no matter who it is, gets time.

I think it's unrealistic to expect anyone to hit the ground running, then sack them after a few months.

It's getting a bit ridiculous now. Sacking manager after manager in an attempt to get instant success.

29 Aug 2026 10:24:33
Thanks for the info, buddy. We can't keep sacking managers after a few games. Yes, we are all hurting and always want the best for our club. I would like to think, come the end of the season, if Derek McInnes hasn't done his best, he will know within himself and he steps back from his duties.

He seems an honest and upfront person, at least that's what I get from all his interviews. I do think, though, we all have to stick together, and hopefully we'll come out the other end stronger, and if there is an issue within the club, they can identify it.

29 Aug 2026 10:25:29
I think McInnes could do with some better coaches to shape the team. I can see issues all over the park that stem from lack of coaching on the training ground.
Beale helped Gerrard in that respect.

Gerrard set the standards, and Beale was the tactical brain.
If he doesn't improve, he won't get time, regardless of what the board thinks. Unfortunately, fans matter more than anyone.

29 Aug 2026 10:45:20
I find the narrative around better coaches interesting, as when I watch us I don't see anything screaming out at me that makes me think the issue is coaching.

So I wonder what it is that others are seeing that I'm not.

29 Aug 2026 10:52:11
What do you think the issue is, Ehl? I'm completely at a loss to be honest.

29 Aug 2026 10:55:02
They don't have a fancy foreign sounding name, Ehl.

29 Aug 2026 11:01:05
SouthBear, we're not a team.

We're a collective of players.

History tells us that players can continue to underperform, collect their wages, and it's the coaches and management team that gets replaced.

The cycle needs to be broken.

29 Aug 2026 11:01:58
EHL, what would you say our tactics are? That's the biggest thing. Looks as if the players are just going out there and making it up. McInnes teams used to be solid, compact, and direct - that might not be my favourite style of play, but at least it's Something. Feels as if we're completely devoid of ideas to me.

29 Aug 2026 11:04:07
Is it more a case of the players not applying themselves correctly then, EHL?

To all intents, it seems that we look really good and intense in training, then just stop when it comes to game day.

I can understand, to a certain degree, from those wanting a move after what happened to Chermiti, a bit of hesitation throwing themselves about, but surely there must be a way to deal with those issues?

29 Aug 2026 11:10:27
Coaching isn't one of the root causes, as there has been too much failure with numerous coaching groups over the years, though it is worth watching some of John Walker's (or similar) analysis videos on YouTube, to say that there is scope for focused 1:1 coaching of certain players under certain team patterns, and especially if McInnes keeps to the approach of regularly changing formations during matches.

29 Aug 2026 11:17:08
We'll see, they can say they won't sack him & give him the season, but if results or performances don't improve he'll be shown the door. Gillispe might think he'll get a season, but Cavanagh probably won't feel the same, as he sacked Martin, Stewart & Thelwell last season, & so far we are off to a worse start.

McInnes is very much part of the problem too, & not blameless like some like to think.

29 Aug 2026 11:20:58
Thanks, Deacon. Sacking the manager hasn't worked for us in the past few years. With the exception of Russell Martin, I'd have stuck with each other manager. Particularly Gio.

We keep doing the same thing and getting poorer results, which points to something else. Unfortunately, it could take some time to diagnose.

imo recruitment is the place to start. Surely there are people out there doing a fantastic job who we can bring in to get the right deals over the line faster and more effectively? It won't be that on its own for sure, but a good place to start. Also, what value do guys like Stig (not the poster!) bring to the party?

29 Aug 2026 11:26:33
Gordon, I have nothing against John's analysis. However, it's important to highlight that he doesn't know what the team instructions are - so his, and other like him, analysis is based on what he thinks players should be doing.

Quite often, this type of analysis is fundamentally wrong, as it can highlight a player who is carrying out the team instructions as the player at fault - if that makes sense.

As someone who works with players on a one to one basis, not letting your own biases influence your coaching is one of the most difficult elements to get to grips with.

29 Aug 2026 11:37:19
Jim and Ac think the issues run deeper. Strange comment. To me, that sounds like they're trying to buy time. Hidden agendas, corruption, blaming players that could mean a whole host of things. Run deeper than what exactly?

29 Aug 2026 11:42:50
I have no idea, I'm not a coach or manager. So I can coulda, woulda, shoulda all I like. The truth is I don't know what's best.

It's just not working!

We were told that DM was a manager that players would run through brick walls for and we have seen that at the other clubs he's been at.

So that leads me to believe there is something deeper going on at Ibrox.

29 Aug 2026 11:44:52
Thanks, EHL. I really appreciate that professional perspective. I'll watch those videos with a more informed view in future.

29 Aug 2026 11:50:39
Ehl, I see application from some of our players as the main problem, and once this window closes, hopefully everything settles down and Derek McInnes can find his best 11 that has to happen. 🤔 🇬🇧

29 Aug 2026 12:02:51
Hoth, sacking GvB still burst my balls, mate, we would be in a far stronger position today if we never, hopefully this new board pay less attention to our fans.

29 Aug 2026 12:05:27
Sorry am bringing this up 😂 is Cerny a done deal? Loads coming from Turkey

29 Aug 2026 12:08:20
Ehl, I know you have a lot of foot insight into the inner workings of the club, so not going to sit here and say you're wrong, but is Derek McInnes saying elite preparation from the backroom staff while in the same interview saying we also don't know what we are as a team not incredibly worrying?

We've been completely out coached in Europe, but a 34 year pretty new to the job and by a guy whose current job is the highest level he's managed at in Jablonec.

29 Aug 2026 12:10:12
My star, I genuinely think if we let any of them outwith Martin ride out the tough times we'd be in a much better place. But, therein lies the issue. There's an element of the support that just destroys any rebuild of positivity. I'm not saying being annoyed isn't justified, but it has to be done outwith playing.

Boo as loud as you want at half time and full time, but these lads need positive energy when they're playing. Jeering the first misplaced risky pass just makes them go into their shells and not try to repeat it.

29 Aug 2026 12:53:39
The club are missing Jimmy Bell in the dressing room to drum it into these overpaid Maradonas. They get their vast salaries win, lose or draw.

29 Aug 2026 12:53:41
I'm sorry but there is no chance McInnes has Elite anything.

No chance his team are elite or deliver elite.

His career in management tells you that.

29 Aug 2026 12:55:38
I keep reading about deeper rooted problems, but wonder what these could be given that just about all the players and staff have been replaced in the past year by AC and Co.

29 Aug 2026 12:55:56
It's obvious what the underlying issue at the moment, it's the inability of the incompetent owner to employ staff capable of running a big club like Rangers. We've had Thelwell, Stewart, Gillespie, Martin, Rohl and now McInnes. Under their stewardship we have gone from a club getting to the later stages in the Europa League to a team that can't even qualify for the Conference League and managed to finish third in a two horse race.

They've every right to stick with their main McInnes, although we all know he's not up to it, but let's see how they feel when this dreadful team he has assembled are struggling mid table by Christmas. You really need to get a pro in to run things, Mr Cavenagh, and stay in the USA and watch the games on the telly.

29 Aug 2026 12:23:13
A team that drinks together, wins together. 🤣

If you don't give 100% then that's when you get injured, at least that's what I was told back in the day, and it didn't do me any harm.

29 Aug 2026 12:30:40
I agree, Rabbi Burns, and I just hope the club stand firm against that section of the support.

29 Aug 2026 13:52:18
EHL, I would be interested in your thoughts in relation to 'in game' management/coaching, as it's clear in first 6 matches that we haven't been able to make changes that improve our performance. The fact we played 210 minutes against Jablonec and at no point had any control in the games - despite playing 5 formations - the opposition looked far better in and out of possession.

Fundamentally, this has to lie with the coaching staff?

29 Aug 2026 14:50:06
EHL, I totally agree about not sacking managers etc. I was wondering 🤔 if you had any thoughts on something I was thinking might be going on behind the scenes. I'm wondering if Raskin is a negative influence on the team and may be undermining any new managers that come in.

- feel that's a gd few managers now that have disliked him and found him difficult.

I have no knowledge or info on this, I was just wondering your thoughts.

I'm sad to say this, but I really don't think things are going to work out with McInnes long term - and do believe we will need to do one more manager appointment before things kick on - unless we can get rid of a lot of the players that clearly don't care a jot about Rangers FC.
