Evening folks, first time poster here. Reasonably close to the club through my employment. Heard today that Derek McInnes has approached Andrew Cavanagh re Thelwell & Purdy expressing concerns over both the standard and strategy of signings during this window. Also that there is an misalignment between Thelwell/Purdy and Stig.

With that username, how do you expect anyone to believe you.
12 Aug 2026 18:58:11
To be fair it does say Martian. 👽
12 Aug 2026 19:06:46
I posted a few weeks ago, I heard Stig had been moved to the side after Rohl coming in was shot down.
12 Aug 2026 19:09:22
Scooby, I made this account when the hysteria around Martin was on the go. 🤣 Couldn't stand the guy.
12 Aug 2026 19:09:31
Scooby040881, what sort of username would have someone believe him?
12 Aug 2026 19:40:29
Tell you what if that's true.
Good on Mcciness, because we've all been saying the same thing.
Mccinnes is a Rangers man and a supporter of the club. He will also want the best for the club, like us fans.
Good on him is what I say and I also don't find this hard to believe in all honesty.
So good first post, Russelmartian.

DM ain't happy with the recruitment team, who can blame him. The standard of player being brought in is miles off slot if squad players, not week in week out starters!
12 Aug 2026 19:56:37
I can believe that.
12 Aug 2026 20:01:49
The Dad gets sacked, and the son sticks around. Says it all for me.
12 Aug 2026 20:05:28
SamofOrange, you'll need to explain that statement. Stig was moved to the side after Rohl coming in was shot down? Rohl was in the job before Stig came in and was still in the job when Stig was made permanent. Surely, if Cavenagh and Gillespie appointed Stig, he should be in charge of sacking Purdy, Thelwell Jnr and a few others now that there seems to be agreement that this transfer window has been just as bad as last season, only this time the players have been signed permanently and can't just be returned next summer.
12 Aug 2026 20:10:02
Standard of player is decent for our league, tbh, and no loan deals. Remember it took Chermiti, Fernandez, Cherny and others time to become players for us. The rest are 2 to 3 games in.
We are selling players for profit, no idea how.
We are reducing the wage bill.
Our luck will turn, it has to. Keep the faith. 🇬🇧
12 Aug 2026 20:10:24
Love the username mate. 😂 👏
12 Aug 2026 20:28:06
Wsl meant Mciness heads pickled after a long day.
12 Aug 2026 20:50:28
What's the latest with the PSV boy, thought he had a medical yesterday.
12 Aug 2026 20:54:46
Even if this rumour is true, then isn't it still McInnes who gets final say on who we sign? Obviously, the recruitment team identify players and the manager gets to choose who we sign. But surely McInnes is allowed to give his own list of players who he likes?
12 Aug 2026 21:12:19
Briggie, he will be given positions, and then have a say once profiles, etc.
12 Aug 2026 21:13:25
Nrig, yes it is, but if the recruitment team only bring up rubbish then McInnes does have many options, or if the recruitment team just messes about with negotiations it will put good players off coming.
12 Aug 2026 21:32:32
Everyone just neglecting the fact McInnes is involved in recruitment & has had his say on transfers from the beginning. McCrorie, who's been useless, was someone he wanted even if it was Rohl's suggestion. Devlin pushed for him ahead of others. Skoglund was apparently shown around the place & he pulled the plug on him. He pulled the plug on 2 OoCs & pushed Godfrey up the list & we missed out on Victory.
We can blame recruitment team all we want but they didn't pick a CM/CDM to play RB & leave two RBs on the bench, it's not them telling the players not to press & play walking football, it's not them subbing off wingers for midfielders. McInnes has made us worse in every department from last year. Has recruitment been good enough? Probably not & I wonder how much changed between Rohl leaving & McInnes taking over.
12 Aug 2026 21:52:28
Rommens, another who can barely kick a ball without getting injured. Get the recruitment/scouting team out! And why we didn't accept 22m for Chermiti is a complete shambles!
12 Aug 2026 22:29:08
This isn't what people said we would get with McInnes. People spoke about an old school manager along the lines of Walter, who would oversee the running of things. It seems that's not the case at all, and McInnes is just another coach. He doesn't even have a say in who we sign.
13 Aug 2026 00:08:27
I don't get it. Good on him for putting it to Thelwell and Purdy, yes, but surely McInnes has the final say in who we sign? Outwith the transfers, he's made some silly errors both in terms of positioning and substitutions.
But he gets the benefit of the doubt because we've seen his teams before and they've always been solid. It can only get better! (Recycled patter since 2012). 😅
13 Aug 2026 01:27:23
McInnes is partly to blame, also he has signed off on the players we have already signed. 🤦♂️ I don't believe this at all about him to be honest.
13 Aug 2026 05:29:36
Running the club like a pub team. The enemy go about it quietly and have signed quality, probably. If we can play with 13 on pitch, then we can win. Quantity only beats quality in war. Russian front.
13 Aug 2026 08:19:55
That's not true. He pushed to sign Devlin, Godfrey & was key in getting Dan Neil to sign.
But, I suppose, we can just blame Thelwell & Purdy then.
13 Aug 2026 08:38:20
Let's clear up some of the mistruths here
Devlin was absolutely a Del signing.
Godfrey and McCrorie were well down the line prior to his appointment and would have been signed even if Rohl was still here.
As far as Neil goes, he was barely involved in that one til the bitter end. He approved it all the same.
There are clearly issues with the recruitment team, the same one hunted from their last clubs due to poor performance in the market. Would expect both will be long gone before the start of the January window.
The incompetence behind the scenes at that level is staggering. We've missed out on targets.
The manager is furious, two times in public he has failed out how slow the process has been. The warning shots have been fired. They've around three weeks to sort this mess, and it is an absolute mess.
Unable to shift players on is clearly also a big factor, but due to this, we are in serious danger of not getting the main targets we wanted this window.
Something has to give. At this moment, McInnes has been sold a dummy.
13 Aug 2026 08:39:28
We do love to vilify those who work at our club.
Anyways, rumours are we're linked to Dunning-Kruger, hopefully a signing that has the effect we desire.
13 Aug 2026 08:43:39
I'm not sure why so many fans are repeating the soundbite "quantity over quality". We have known this for years, Walter Smith said it, and it was an option to us this summer. You, the fans, wanted the priority to be on signing Scots first, ones who are Rangers fans, ones who know what it means to play for this club, etc.
Suddenly, signing Scots and Rangers fans isn't a thing anymore. People don't care. Now they want proven ability and they don't care where it comes from.
13 Aug 2026 08:47:22
Love that EHL hahahaha.
13 Aug 2026 08:56:50
That's not true regarding Godfrey & Neil.
Neil was just about to sign for Southampton until Del got involved & Godfrey was one he pushed for.
13 Aug 2026 09:45:41
Ehl. 😅
Copland, always interested to hear your views, opinions, and rumours.
13 Aug 2026 10:28:47
At 16:42 TwistedTonic1872 posted that Purdy and Thelwell Jr were being sacked so either this poster has noticed that and thought this would be a good story for credibility, or there is truth in his story and is backing up what Twisted said.
I don't doubt Twisted, with that said.
EHL, great to see you back. Just FYI, I could not post in the live chat (not got permission) but whoever blamed you for the way the team was playing v Hibs was out of order by a long way.
13 Aug 2026 10:42:10
Ehl, I heard we're not interested in him now and it was a Swiss guy called Carl Gustav Jung that was top of the list?
13 Aug 2026 11:30:07
I've obviously missed whatever was said in the live chat (thankfully by sounds of it).
Noice, Juan Ehl, not embarrassed to admit it had to use my good pal Google. 😁

All we ever hear nowadays are excuses from those in charge, whether it's about recruitment or anything else to do with the running of the club. They give out statements that sound good and do nothing. We are more stable financially as a result of the new owners, but they have done nothing to improve the club. Their record for hiring and firing duds is unbelievable, in fact you would think, by the law of averages, they would get one or two right, but they have managed to break that law too.
They need somebody to find them a DOF to run the football side of the club so they can sit in the stand, watch and not get involved. Hopefully Gillespie can do the non football side, though I have my doubts.
