Derek McInnes on Talksport this morning saying much happier than start of season but we've a lot to improve on obviously. One interesting thing was that 2 up front is very much what wants and believes Rangers should be playing. Just one for the system / formation chats. What do you think?

I like the fact that it's adaptable, 2 when required but either forward can drop back to make a 4-5-1 (or 4-3-3) when we need to. I like having 2 forwards on the park, perhaps I'm just old school these days.

He bigged up Naderi as well and said he thrives when playing off another striker.
Now, does that mean that neither Naderi and Kelsy can play the lone striker?
Or will that be a role for Chermiti once he's back fit in certain matches?
As we are definitely losing the midfield battle a lot of the time.

Way to beat it is playing 3 cb's, 3 cm's, 2 wide players, two cf's, a system we could be using for the majority of clubs in our league.

I love us playing with 2 wingers My star 👌If our wingers are quality they're game changers and win the game for you 👍🇬🇧.

Me too Dado but traditional strikers are a dying art so it's hard to find 2. Even look at England. After Kane they are struggling for any options when I remember guys like Fowler could hardly get a sniff because so much competition.
It's becoming almost as specialist as GK with only one in each team and forwards are all inverted wingers or false 9s or 10s.

People crying out for 433/4231 if that solves all our problems why have we not won any trophies in the previous seasons when playing it the majority of the time.
Gerrards team always controlled the midfield and won the battle there but I recall plenty of semi finals against teams a lot worse than we are where we went out.
End of the day every formation and systems has its positives and it's negatives.
McInnes is a manager who most of the time will want to get two strikers playing and as long as we are winning I really don't see the need for changing it.
When we play in Europe it's going to need to get tweaked as we won't get away with giving some of the chances we do in Scotland, but when playing in Scotland with two strikers on the park you are generally going to out score teams and with 1 on 1 defenders like Maka we can afford to give up chances.

The two up top is my preferred option, always has been. I'm not suggesting a rigid 4-4-2 every single game, but for me players from that set up can easily be adapted to play in various alternate formations as and when required.
My ole heart yearns for the ancient 2-3-5 at times. Them wuz the days 🤣.

Yeah Kaiser, but I'll be gone by then and whoever does do it will claim it's the "modern way" and invent some new fandangled phrases to describe it. "Inverted Christmas tree" 🙈 😂.

Parlane, look at the Japanese clubs, probably the most used formation in Japanese football, mate, 235 or 325.

I am a 433 guy and one of my biggest frustrations in recent years was when Beale was playing that with really good effect and abandoned it over the summer in favour of the crazy 4222 thing he ended up failing with.
With the current team I am just going with it because if I keep fixating on the formation not being what I want it effects my enjoyment of the good in it. All setups have pros and cons and I know myself it's easy to get caught up in the cons.
I have also been saying for years that I wanted some stability in our approach and that itself is more important than what the approach actually is. Feels like we have had a more streamlined transition from Rohl to DM than we have had with any other managerial change in recent times.
It does seem to have helped with us being in best position we have been at this point in a season for some time.

Well said Tommy I also prefer my teams to play 433 but what we are playing just now is working and it's effective. So I won't be crying out for us to change.

I like how Naderi and Kelsy are developing an understanding in partnership. Think that's a few times they've assisted each other. That and also quite a few of our goals have been close tap ins or quick reactions. We've lacked a predators instinct up front for a while because our front man has had to keep coming deep rather than getting into the box.

Kaiser, I think it is a mistake.
I am unashamedly open about my dislike for the system.
I prefer a 4-3-3 high intensity system and I am unapologetic about that.

Why not try Penrice on the left wing in front of Rommens at left back . They would provide width and good crosses when we are attacking but when we are defending Penrice can come inside and form a three man midfield .
Currently I would start Bouanani on the right which would leave Minsu available to come off the bench . Obviously it could be tweaked a bit for some games notably at home when we have more of the ball to attack teams.

Looks like it the 2 for now NATO so just need to get used to it, 433 hasn't exactly been good for us for years now so at least it's working at the moment. Problem we face is either lose out a man in midfield or drop a striker but neither are as good on their own.

I understand that currently it is working in a sense.
I mean that currently we are not being made to pay for a non existent midfield and a wide group that do not provide many goals contributions as yet.
I just can't help but think that it is going to fall apart.
I am by no means saying we should never play this way but to have the adaptability and awareness to change when it does fall apart would make me a little more confident long term.

Agree with that nato sometimes he could be more flexible in games and change to a 3 to change the flow of a game.

Personally I don't care about formation. I just want what works for this group of players. I just want success and for us to be adaptive and fluid. Not pigeon holeing players into postions because we can only play a certain way. You play to players strengths and you get enough players in form, happy and confident in their work and you win the league.
