Yeah baz seen him state that when Gerrard called his agent he thought it was a wind up, agent was basically saying that he wasn't going anywhere, but goldson said I'm taking the call no matter what, it's steven Gerrard, who he said was his idol. When Gerrard called he asked him to meet half way, but goldson told him his wife was heavily pregnant and expecting any day, so Gerrard said don't worry I'll come to you, 6 hour drive to Brighton.
He stayed talking to him for 2 half hours, telling him he wanted to build defence around, Connor was so impressed, now part of an invincible team that goes down in history.
Love these wee behind the scene's football stories, saddens me to see the abuse Gerrard gets at time's. Each to their own though.

Gerrard could have been a lot more successful if he was willing to adapt his tactics in the SPL and play with two up top. Far too often we dropped points against the low block whilst playing with one striker. Barasic and Tav would have been ideal for two big strikers like we have now.
I always felt that Gerrard's tactical stubborness was his biggest flaw but he did bring back standards to our club. I think its the way he left that left fans a poor taste with fans.

His stubbornness Coldo? Well his stubbornness won the league undefeated with 25 points and the best defensive record in British football history, just love that kinda of stubbornness then.

Winning one trophy out of nine does not disprove his stubbornness, in fact it actually proves my point that he should have won more than one trophy. I think if he had have adapted tactics / formations he would have won more.

I am the same bb4 it's really prevalent on this site, I don't see it anywhere near as bad in person or on X. If we backed Gerrard after 55 we would have gone on to dominate.

Del his first two league campaigns he was building towards the one he won. So don't think you can use that as a stick to beat him with. He should have won a league cup against Celtic and would have if not for Fraser Forster.
Gerrards main issue with us was his inability to beat the lower teams in the cups. Sure we were knocked out by Aberdeen x2, hearts, st Johnston and St Mirren which is clearly not good enough. But I'm sure he would have eventually got to grips if he was backed more after 55.

That's what I mean wishy he should have won the cups more often. His inability to beat lower teams was down to his tactical approach.

I think he underestimated them. And used to rest players for them. It was the one black mark against his name but the abuse he gets from some on here is ridiculous, compared to other managers we have had considering he's the only one to win a title since Walter.

It took time for him getting his squad together, once again, his stubbornness payed off big time, or they'd have won 15 leagues right now, this one trophy in nine is laughable, the Celtic squad when he arrived was far better than anything he had.

When you look at the team he inherited to the team he built to win the league. If only we got veerman into that team I think a lot of things would have went different.

Is it abuse for pointing out that he's not as good as people think? He was backed by getting time to build a team and not getting sacked, backed spent a lot too (Gio told there wasn't money spend after him) and ultimately raised the wage structure to get higher, we've spent years trying to get it down. No other manager got given time to build anything in the top flight except him.
Baz Veerman didn't want to come and his team wanted £14/15 million not £5 million, could be wrong but that was pretty much budget that season.

We could have won that league cup if it wasn't for a blatant offside goal being given ( officials cheating in a cup final surely not? ) and if Alfie would have scored a penalty .Forster had a good game but even then we should have won .
