A lot of self loathing on this page. I am a home but no longer away fan so can only comment on the games I attend but I honestly don't see the boo boys that are consistently spoken of.

There's a huge difference between groans of disappointment and booing our own players. We have magnificent fans who follow through thick and thin, the latter being the situation for far too long now. We don't stop going and we are well entitled to an opinion or a groan. Almost never does that go as far as booing during the game. Half time and full time is a chance to do so and if the players can't hack that then they don't understand the expectations. For me, it's important they hear the frustrations at the appropriate time.

The fans I can't abide are those in black who chant about stamping on the heads of others for roughly half the game. Pathetic. I'm a different religion to most Rangers and Celtic fans and am all for banter and non wokery, but that's just embarrassing.

I am with you on this Gooner. I am getting a bit fed up with this narrative that fans are the problem.

I exclude UB in this because that's a different problem for the club, as is sectarianism. I will defend the club regarding sectarianism because that is a social issue in Scotland.

Blaming football clubs for that is rather silly, imo.

The thing that annoys me about the fan blame game is the level of incompetence throughout our club these last 5-6 years. There have been multiple years where we have had no management structure at all above our managers. We have had poor decision after poor decision by people running the club when we did actually have them in position.

That's why we have failed to challenge year after year. We have all the resources to challenge every single year in SPL and using fans as an excuse for management failures at every level of the club is ignorant and false, imo.

I probably started a lot of it today, but to be clear I'm not talking about fans who boo or voice their opinions.

I'm referencing a section of fans who are truly vile human beings and use our badge and our "standards" to justify their behaviour, the part they have played in forcing someone to resign from our club and the way that this has almost been celebrated by a wider portion of our fan base.

Thats awfully strong language EHL.

It makes me feel that I am not in the know as to what happened to Dan Purdy. If him or his family have been abused in any way in their everyday life I am 100% in agreement. That would be terrible and I would condemn anyone who done that unequivocally.

I think this is unfortunately the modern world though, anyone in public life has to put up with it. It's totally wrong and driven by social media sowing devides in every part of life.

I have friends that have been so mild in their approach to football turn into passionate bigots because of that constant input from these platforms.

I think it's over simplifying a serious societal issue to just blame fan groups for that. These platforms, which showed such great early promise, have turned into cesspits which radicalise opinions and cause this abhorrent behaviour.

My personal thoughts on people in management positions at the club is that I am football fan who does not have a clue how good these people are at the club. Possibly with the exception of a DoF because you can work out their strategy from the people they bring to the club.

Other than that I don't really have the information to judge anyone in those positions and try not to do it.

I just feel though, their has been a growing narrative to blame fans and I don't like it or agree with it. That's not to say we don't have issues with fans, for example, I can't stand the UB at all, the shame they continue to put on the club is nowhere near worth their support imo.

If we had been a well run club who had not made mistake after mistake then I could maybe understand it more but we have been a shambles of a club and trying to put that onto fans is just flat wrong imo.

I don't blame the fans for this; other than the UB, and that's for an entirely different reason. But I do think it's worth remembering that footballers are only human, and the atmosphere around them can have a real impact on how they perform.

If we could support the team every week with the same intensity and positivity that we do on a European night, just imagine the difference that could make. Equally, the opposite can be true. When there's constant groaning every time a player passes backwards, loses possession or attempts a pass that doesn't come off, players can start to play within themselves.

It's not necessarily that they don't understand the expectations. They do. It's that when they constantly hear the frustration from the stands, they can start to feel that they're failing to meet those expectations. That can lead to hesitation, taking fewer risks and ultimately retreating into their shell.

You only have to see the lift the players get when the crowd is fully behind them on a European night to understand the effect a positive atmosphere can have. If that support can lift them, then a negative atmosphere can just as easily have the opposite effect.

so fans are perfectly entitled to react to what they see on the pitch, and groans or frustration are a natural part of football; I simply make the point that those reactions can have an unintended effect on the players. so as I want us to have every chance to win I choose not to react in that way.

Angus but let's be honest pal a minority that go over the top on abuse to players is not on mate 😡We all can say this and that player was poor today the manager got his subs and tactics wrong and so on but some take it to the extreme and go way over the top and i've witnessed it at Ibrox on a good few occasions mate 😡👎We shouldn't put our heads under the sand because there's absolutely no getting away from it as it happens 😡.

I agree with everything you say Angus.

But to me that's what separates a Rangers player from someone who will never be right for the club.

You need such a strong character to succeed in elite sport. Ability is obviously important but for me it's character that separate those who really mahe it and those who fall short.

I also get annoyed with those groans and would prefer we stuck with the team more because we have a young team and they are tested in that atmosphere. I do understand why it's like that though after such an unsuccessful period for the club.

But I still think it's within the players to stand up to that and show us what they are made of. There have been many in that position over the years who then became idols because they have held up under that pressure.

Tommy I agree that the demands of the club are great, and they always have been. Previous generations of players had to deal with those expectations too, as you say, but I think there is a difference now in the way fans behave and express those demands, and I can never quite put my finger on why.

Is it the way children are taught that their opinions should always be heard from a n early age without much control on how that happens? Is it the influence of social media, where everyone feels entitled to an immediate reaction and an audience? Or is it the sense of entitlement that perhaps grew during the nine-in-a-row years, when success became the expectation rather than the reward?

Whatever the reason, I think the behaviour has got worse. The standards and expectations shouldn't change; we should still demand the very best from the club and the players. But the way those demands are expressed needs to change. There is a difference between holding the club to a high standard and constantly turning on players, managers or each other when things don't go our way.

We need to find a way to bring back the passion, standards and expectations of previous generations, without the negativity and sense of entitlement that seems to have crept into the support. The demands can stay the same; it's the way we voice them that needs to change.

The UB's embarrass themselves. I don't feel ashamed in any way because of someone else's behaviour. The club could easily watch some cctv and match them to their season ticket seats and ban them, or anyone else that gets involved in anti social behaviour.

Imagine if the foul language was also toned down at the match, much better environment that would not infect young people with growth stunting behaviours!

Never booed my team in my life, although been pretty impossible not to swear watching them the last few seasons.

My wee Nana used to say to me all the time if you don't have character you don't have nothing and that has stuck with me all my life. Good read guys and hope we absolutely wipe them off the park today.
