Watched the hull vs man United game today and saw Nobel Mendy, a £22m signing for hull this summer and former transfer target of ours(whilst at real betis) from rayo vallecano scored on his debut.
A player we failed to sign now signed for big dough by EPL team. Goes to show the poor decision making by the recruitment team over the years.
Whilst i agree with most folk that the driouech transfer probably did fall apart from him telling us to bugger off after going out of the Europa league. I don't understand this nonsese of not signing quality players because we may not have them available for a couple of weeks.
If people remember rightly, we signed Tuur Rommens and didn't have him available for 5/6 weeks once signed i'm sure. In my opinion you sign quality when it is available and find ways to win in the meantime.

He was taken off today with a knee injury.
Perhaps we made the right decision.

All the attributes to not care what people think, whilst giving 100% on the pitch at the same time. Few and far between guys like him.

It amazes me how posters keep finding more and more unique ways to criticise the club they support.
When a football club signs a player, they make a massive financial investment in transfer fees and wages. To protect this investment, clubs typically take out two high-value insurance policies, Temporary Total Disablement (TTD) and Permanent Total Disablement (PTD), to cover player salaries or recoup asset value if a player suffers a serious injury.
The medical examination serves as the crucial underwriting tool for these insurance policies.
So, depending on the outcome of a medical, insurance companies can refuse to cover a player, or offer to do so at significant premiums.
In the case of Mendy, he failed his medical, so I'm happy that the club did not proceed to commit c£10m at that time.
It's awesome that he recovered and is now playing for Hull, but to claim it's an example of poor decision making at the club makes no sense.
If anything, it's a sign that the recruitment team can identify talent.

EHL2020, thank you for your response to my post regarding the insurance policies. Something I didn't know and will read up on to further my own knowledge.
With regards to my criticism of the team I support, I understand your frustration at seeing fans criticise, however, I am merely stating my own frustration bordering on apathy due to consistently being let down over the years. Considering my English team is Arsenal, first game being a 3-2 defeat at Wigan after being 2 nil up, you'd think I'd have learned patience. Sadly supporting a team that was always winning combined with supporting a team like Arsenal especially after last year's title win, has me feeling slightly greedy.
From what I saw the bill for Mendy at the time was £4million back in 2025.
But as you mention he failed a medical, but subsequently signed for Rayo Vallecano for something close to £9million shortly after. So my question in response to your post would be this. Is it just a case of in the Mendy example that we decided not to pay premiums for the insurance you described that Rayo Vallecano chose to do so? In which case do you believe we decided against doing so in the case of Driouech also or do you believe it is as a result of dropping out of Europa League and he's decided against signing and the club and player have agreed to spin the injury argument story?

Who cares about scaring defenders. He has had 1 good season in 3/4 seasons, plus scaring defenders is all well and good but how many times is our forward(s) isolated so nobody to benefit from him causing chaos.
Also, as John alluded to, his off field antics are a no go.
