Letting a 32 and 27 year old have a big role in our recruitment is scandalous.
Souness isn't wrong.

Thanks for the detailed info. Could you explain the £41m trading profit part, please, when we haven't made many profits? Or am I reading it wrong?

Why is someone being 32 years old scandalous? 😂😂😂 It's just not scandalous is it.

You could equally argue about listening to a 73 year old who hasn't had an active part in football clubs since 2006. How current is his knowledge of players worldwide or even the goings on at a football club?

Angus, The 73 year old's career speaks for itself, and if most of our players had the heart and desire of that "old man" then we would be in a far better place imo - he knew how to build a team of winners - albeit we were helped by the English football ban at that time - I think some advice/guidance and support from that man would not go amiss.
🤔👍

Souness was right about Lampard when he recommended him. And we didn't listen. So maybe he is worth listening to. They had a 74 year old win the league against our 34 year old. Maybe something in the 'with age comes wisdom'.

He's been out the game over 20 years. He was outdated by the end of his own management career, never mind now. Love the big guy, but listening to him because he "gets it" or because he's "staunch" gets us to exactly where we are right now.

Blue Floyd, this wasn't about how good Souness was in his career; it was about how relevant his knowledge is to the modern game. He was brought in as a consultant a couple of years ago and we still finished second, so I'm not sure what additional help he would bring now.
And has Lampard actually managed in Scotland? Because unless he has, what he's doing at Coventry isn't necessarily relevant to Rangers.
Clement is a good example of that; he won in Belgium and is now doing very well at Norwich, yet, according to our fans, he wasn't good enough here.
That's the problem with judging managers in isolation. What works at one club, in one league and under one set of circumstances doesn't automatically translate to Rangers.

Stew, the diffrence being Oniell was managing at a high level into the late 2010s. He also, if you're honest, is the best manager outside Smith in the the last 40 years of our game. He came into a club that had a bad spell under Nancy but still had major stability, and the fact he left most of his tactical approaches up to Maloney and Fotheringham, who are relatively young, tells you all you need to know. He's basically a level head showing 2 young guys the ropes of player management, whilst they deliver the tactical side of the game. Souness definitely wouldn't provide that. Souness doesn't lace Smith or Oniells boots when it comes to management, even big Eck was a better manager than Souness.
As I said, love the big man but he isn't the mentor people think he is, nor will this work out.
I recon this will be the next fad of the fanbase wanting Souness directly involved with the club more than he already is in his ambassador Rohl. Am I wrong in saying he had his safe at a level on Mciness? The boardroom must stop listening to the fanbase and start working on a management level thinking basis, where we actually look like a footballing club and business rather than a joke.

Lampard was damaged goods at that time after his spells with Everton and Chelsea as an interim, nobody wanted him to get the Rangers job at the time. He has done a brilliant job at Coventry, but nobody could have predicted that. I have to say, though, I would have given it to him to succeed Gerrard because I felt he had the presence to keep the momentum going.
My disappointment with Souness is that he was asked to get involved in the selection process, and when it wasn't his guy that was picked, he couldn't wait to blurt it all over the media, undermining Phil Clement. I don't think there is any chance that he would be involved ever again because of this.

U say nobody wanted Lampard, that is nonsense. He never got the job because we could not afford him.

We've more than halved the wage bill, maybe we have halved the quality as well. 🤣
16 Aug 2026 14:37:34
I'm not sure who produced this, but from a cursory glance there's a lot of incorrect information contained within it.
16 Aug 2026 15:00:39
Blue age has nothing to do with it. Doesn't matter if you are 27 or 57, it's your ability to do the job that's in question. What a ridiculous statement.
Have we not signed 27/28 players in the last year/2 years?
16 Aug 2026 16:10:01
It makes no difference who we appointed, they would've been failed with recruitment and the board. They're not magic.
