Jim Gillespie ultimately has to carry the can for this shambles.
He was brought in as someone who knows Rangers, knows Scottish football and, presumably, understands the standards required at this club. Well, he's now under pressure like he's probably never experienced before.
A lot of the blame is being directed at the scouting department, and yes, they clearly have questions to answer. But ultimately, someone has to be accountable for the recruitment operation. Gillespie doesn't necessarily need to be personally picking every player, but he should absolutely be overseeing the process and signing off on what is coming through the door. If he isn't doing that, then who is?
We now have a squad that looks badly unbalanced, recruitment that looks scattergun and a team that doesn't look remotely ready for the level Rangers should be operating at.
Ultimately, that's on the people running the football operation.
It's easy to talk about understanding Rangers and the expectations that come with the job when things are going well. You see the true worth of people when they're put under pressure.
Well, Jim, this is your first real test.

It's been like this long before he came in, so how can he be to blame.
14 Aug 2026 18:37:17
We've been a mess well before Gillespie was appointed.
14 Aug 2026 18:44:21
He's the man in the hot seat now.

We haven't bought quality is the main issue, and Macinnes is to blame thus far for chopping and changing too much. He did state in his first presser he has final say on transfers, but never took any blame so far, as well as throw the players under the bus.

Gillespie pushed for McInnes, enough said.

Locker, so we need to allow him to make the required changes.

Muscatin, correct, and to use that argument, how can McInnes or the new players be responsible for all the ills of the past. btw I am agreeing with you here. It is much deeper than one man, one manager or one player. The good news is, I think the owners know this now and will allow someone time to build.

This club's problems were here for decades before Gillespie, wake up!

This place is wild today. 😂
McInnes out, Purdy & Thelwell to be sacked. Cavenagh & co don't have a clue. Stig has left us in a mess.
Fraser Thornton must have his feet up on the desk with the cigars out because he's the only one who hasn't been posted about. No doubt it's coming soon.

I read somewhere a good comparison earlier, we're running through Aldi with a trolley filling it with as much as we can while our neighbours are going into M&S with a basket and hand picking a few quality items.

Hopefully, senior management / directors / board act and act fast. This will be chaos if things do not improve. If we lose on Sunday, I dread to think how toxic Ibrox will be.
14 Aug 2026 20:42:59
Gers80, it may be toxic if that happens, but would that not be a signal that change is required? There seems to be a lot of people at Ibrox making a mess of what goes on the pitch. Fewer cooks, with a Walter and Archie, would do.

The tea lady will be getting the blame soon. The scatterguns are out!

Gordon Dalzeil's take on it, Sir Walter.
