Club have confirmed Chermiti's injury is ACL.
Gutted for him, huge blow for us and now changes the landscape in the transfer window as well. We can't go into the season with one proven striker in Shankland.
Sensible option would be a loan, ideally a very, very good one at that.

Mph, clearly the offer wasn't big enough. I'd prefer my best players playing. Very bad injury, hopefully he makes a full recovery.

I get where MPH is coming from. If you're playing a 'knock back £22m hoping they come back with a £25m offer', you don't risk that player that week. Plenty of posters on here have spotted other teams' players being omitted from a squad and have inferred that it could mean we were negotiating their purchase, so it's definitely a done thing to omit potential key sales to avoid the risk.
The risk, in this case, is that he never becomes a £22m player (think Mols, and I sincerely hope not, for big Chermiti's sake) and that was our chance at making a good profit on our 2nd most expensive player ever. Could have had 3 starters for that kind of cash. Granted, with hindsight, it was a decision harmful to the rebuild.

Absolutely, My Star, and if Derek was told that he's not for sale and to use him if he saw fit, then absolutely right to play him. Any player can be removed from the manager's plans, though, if a big enough offer comes in - and it's (only) my opinion that £22m was a big enough offer for Chermiti. Most of us raised our eyebrows at what we paid for him and wondered if we'd ever get that back.
Turning down a > 100% profit doesn't seem wise. I'd bet £2.20 right now that we never sell him for £22m. My criticism is aimed only at the owners, not at the player, of course, or the manager for playing his strongest team (whatever that is, these days!).

If there was an offer for him, the board will just need to live with the consequences of knocking it back and playing him, that's life, and no one has a crystal ball, while loosing him is undoubtedly a blow his goal return is far from irreplaceable, let's see who we get in may even be a short term upgrade.
And in saying that I mean no disrespect to the boy.
