Rejecting what could be 25 million euros plus add one for a striker that most struggle to value for 10 million including myself is difficult to digest. We have been struggling to sign quality players for a depleted squad in several positions, due to being a couple million short on the offers tabled.

This money could have allowed for the psv and Algerian wingers to be signed with another 8 million left for another striker if his heart desired. Something doesn't add up too top it off he gets injured. Regardless of the injury the decision to reject bid and to play him today is season defining and I wouldn't be 'delighted' about rejecting the bid as mcinnes quotes.

We're in no position to be rejecting 15 goal a season striker bids of 25 million with the lack of quality we have in our squad. I hope others agree this has been one of the most frustrating decisions I have seen in year as this football club.

No club that wants to operate in the big leagues with transfers will be accepting the first offer.

We are in no position to be letting our number 1 cf leave easily, given the quality we lack in the squad when he is one that has that quality.

He is our biggest outlay for years and is one of the few that was clearly improving as last season went on.

He is arguably our biggest financial asset as a player currently, and would need to be replaced. Say we accepted 20m, it's 11m profit without considering sell ons and fees etc. I think we would need to spend 8-10m to replace him with a quality replacement that is a regular scorer at a decent level, so it wouldn't necessarily make a huge amount of difference to our spending.

Thanks for the reply, Huey, but I disagree with a couple of points you make.

He scored in 6 of the last 20 games of the season. His touch and finishing is not that of a 20+ million striker. We overpaid at 10 million. The figure quoted that we would receive is 25 million plus addons. In today's market, a 150% profit is significant, especially in our current situation.

Replacing a player who scores 15 goals in a season should be easily achievable for a team in a league where teams are lucky if they can spend 500k on a player.

Have you seen how lacking we are in left back, centre back, CAM, left wing, right wing and now up front? We don't need 1 individual. We need 35 million to spend on quality squad additions, and this transfer would have seen us in the correct direction to achieve that.

Chermiti will never win us a league. 5 quality signings with the use of that money could.

Please consider my points.

Has a great first touch, Gers. We must be watching different players.

Replacing should be easy? We ain't doing a good job of that just now.

10 Aug 2026 08:14:56
Just can't win, can we? Constantly told we under value our own, yet want to take the first offer. If you were buying anything of value to you, go in with your best offer first time?

Can you imagine our fans, if Chermiti wasn't picked and we lost then it would be the manager's fault for not playing him.

Unbelievable, our fans.

And yet, despite being so poor a team is willing to pay £20M for him. And I would suggest, if someone is willing to pay that and we make 150% of what we paid, then perhaps it was good value. Has he scored as many goals as I would like? Then no, but it was his first season as main striker in a poor team who struggled under 2 managers.

But he will improve, and another team sees that, and is why they are willing to pay that much. And if they want him, they will up their offer, and if even by £1-2M, that is significant for our budget.

But if finding a striker who scores goals is easy, why aren't the other club buying them at lower prices than the £20M they are offering here?

So based on these replies, everyone would rather keep Chermiti and struggle to meet player valuations and continue the season with 4th choice signings in every position or a depleted squad?

For the record, Gees, I'm not one of the fans who moan about undervaluing. If anything, for what they have achieved, I think some of our players are currently over valued.

We are 3 competitive games into a season, and haven't signed a marquee signing or quality 1st choice target. I have my opinion the same as everyone else.

Some will agree, some will disagree, but that's what football is all about.

I really hope I'm wrong, but if we don't sign 3 or 4 quality, not squad but quality players, in the couple of weeks for the positions we are lacking options in, then I fear for the outcome of this season. I really do.
