With all the rumours of the midfielders leaving, was talking to my mate about it, over past few seasons it's the midfield not being able to control a game that has been our downfall. They don't cover defensively and barely offer anything in the final third.

Question is if 3/4 leave, what do we need and want in our midfield?
Personally would like an enforcer who does nothing but break up play and cover the defence. 2 box to box and 1 playmaker

Our midfielders for the coming season I would like are Dan Neil (already signed), Dragojevic,
Dahl, Ferguson, Cerny/just as our right winger,
Curtis/Moore left winger, and at the moment our strikers I'm very happy with and don't need to sign anymore in that area, unless one leaves.

SWS, can I ask, why are you so set on Ferguson now when he was at Aberdeen, you said he wasn't good enough for Rangers. I get it, we are seeing a different Ferguson now, but is that because Italian football suits his game better? Would hate to pay 17M and get the Aberdeen Ferguson.

I'll be very surprised if Moore and Cerny are at Ibrox next year, SWS.

Gees, I know you asked, SWS, but don't players improve with more experience? He's kicked on in Italy.

Plus the fact, when Ferguson was an Aberdeen player, wouldn't have got near our starting line up then.

My Star, correct, but the reverse can be true also. Not every set up suits every player. How many good players on paper have come and tried, realising the Scottish league is not for them at all?

I'm hearing that the Cerny deal is definitely on at this point. Anything can happen in football, in terms of Moore, Borussia Dortmund need a player in his position. I think he will go there with a loan to buy deal with a buyback cause or along they lines.

I think that's very obvious, geesadodothat. ? At that time we had a really good midfield, and I didn't think Ferguson would have got in our starting midfield back then, and, quite simply, now I do. ? Hope that sets your mind at rest, mate.

Ferguson was a good player at Aberdeen, gees, he knows our league well, and he's gone away and improved vastly from his Aberdeen days, mate.

Think we can all agree Fergie has improved since Aberdeen for both club & country, & I would love him here, but not at the expense of 17 mill, which could be used to further strengthen the whole squad, including Dahl & Dragojevic who both have massive sell on value. I doubt we get back much of the 17 mill for Fergie.

Was only playing devil's advocate here, he wouldn't be the first, not the last, to play well in different leagues and not in Scotland. For me 15-17M is too big a risk, especially when we need other players in as well.

I don't think he was that great at Aberdeen though and watched a lot of them at the time. He was annoying in falling to the ground at every slight touch. Not that he was bad, but not great; in fact, I would argue that Shinnie was the player who made Aberdeen tick at the time, and not Ferguson. So he wasn't even the best MF in the Aberdeen team.

I am with geesa in that he has improved because Italian football suits him; better technically and more time to pick a pass. In the hurly burly of Scottish football, we may get the old Ferguson back. Is that worth a £17-£20M risk? Don't want us to, but Elliot is less of a risk if that is the case.
