According to a sun report this morning Rangers closing in on a deal to sign former sunderland captain and midfielder dan neil ?Hope this is also true and if we do manage to sign him, could he be our new captain ? Very interesting indeed ???

26 May 2026 10:10:15
Could be a very good signing this one SWS not sure about Capt but would certainly add some leadership to the team.

26 May 2026 10:14:29
Walter, you will have seen that I posted before.
From what I heard, he was close to coming before - not sure why it fell through last time.
I expect this one to happen.
I think he brings good experience, and I think he has a good mentality and professionalism about him.

Does he have what it takes to be our Next Captain - that might be a possibility??

What's your thoughts?

26 May 2026 11:23:58
We may be getting closer to signing Neil now Dahl Anderson plus one not coming. About 6 on the list.

26 May 2026 11:31:41
Thestigno1, I definitely think Dan Neil is captain material, mate, but so.

26 May 2026 11:33:02
I definitely think Dan Neil is captain material, mate, but so is Lawrence Shankland. ? I'll absolutely back the manager, whoever he chooses to be our next Rangers captain. ? ??

26 May 2026 11:35:57
Won't matter if he's Captain or not, SWS, but he'll bring leadership qualities, mate.

26 May 2026 12:29:57
Rangers review saying this isn't close to happening and neither is Watt.

26 May 2026 12:37:40
Not sure about Neil. I admit I have not seen him play, but his stats are not impressive. 19 games last season with no goals or assists.
Watt I have seen and has better stats and could be a better investment.
Barron has been a good performer when played and should be given more game time.
A creative midfielder is required.

26 May 2026 12:42:13
But played over 130 games for Sunderland the previous few seasons, Batmo, good footballer.

26 May 2026 12:47:59
Stig, we did not make a firm offer for Neil, as we had six loan players, the maximum allowed.

26 May 2026 12:53:33
Say it again, Niel performs like he did for Sunderland, he'd be loved at Rangers.

26 May 2026 13:02:36
My Star, haven't seen him play so I have to bow to your knowledge. His stats at Sunderland do not impress here either, and most of his games are in Div 1 and 2.
Money could be better spent elsewhere imo.

26 May 2026 13:15:45
Hi, John.

I had heard we had put in an offer.
My cousin is a huge Sunderland fan, season ticket holder since he was a young boy, said we had put an offer in for a permanent transfer and he was very open to it from what he had heard?

Maybe he heard wrong? But that's what he had passed onto myself.

What do you think of the current situation, John? Do you think Dan will become a Rangers Player this summer?

26 May 2026 13:18:28
Batmo, played over 200 games for Sunderland, mostly in the Championship, outstanding in the prompted team, I'd say the best player, he's loved in Sunderland, he was captain at 21, he's free and on around 750k yearly at Sunderland, where is this money getting spent better? Seen him score belters, good around midfielder with an excellent range of passing, and only 24, unbelievable workrate, tactically top class, very intelligent footballer with a high IQ on the game, wait and see, he performs like he can, he'll soon be loved.

26 May 2026 13:12:33
He is a sitting mf as well so do you expect them to score and assist lots. They give it to the players who do and that is the point and what we have been missing. ? Not saying I am in favour of him but you need to look at players for what their positions should be doing.

155 of his 276 appearances have been at Championship or Premiership level.

26 May 2026 13:26:17
Stingo, what did your cousin say about him, mate? Guaranteed it's nothing but praise. You'll not get any Sunderland fan dishes Dan Neil, very uncommon from any fans.

26 May 2026 13:57:04
Yeah, he liked him, Star.
Speaks highly of him, says he's tidy on the ball, very workmanlike, not flashy, etc., good leadership qualities overall, has a very good mentality.

Think he will do well up here and thinks fans will take to him very quickly.

26 May 2026 14:05:35
Stingo thinking the same, mate, he signs, it won't be long before he's loved.

26 May 2026 14:13:50
OK, my star. If he signs then I will eat humble pie when he is a credit to you next season.
Feel we have enough defensive midfielders. Some should be moved on if the price is right.

26 May 2026 14:22:08
Batmo, what's beats me is you eating humble pie for a player you know nothing about.

26 May 2026 14:51:57
My point is that defensive midfielders are not the priority. A creative midfielder, centre back and right back are needed.

26 May 2026 14:54:09
I disagree. I don't think we have any defensive midfielders at all, hence the issues we constantly had last season. Neil won't score lots of goals, but he is defensive, can control play, pick passes & more importantly allow the other players to do what they should be doing.

I don't want our def midfielder scoring goals. I want him helping to prevent them, & Neil, I think, can certainly do that for us.

26 May 2026 15:15:41
Bat, name these defensive centre midfielders we've got? Neil has an excellent range of passing, especially for breaking defensive lines.

26 May 2026 16:30:06
Stig permanent deal possible. We certainly did not explore a loan. So, potentially another one who never wanted to sign.
