For every day they're away at the World Cup there's a flat rate, so will be more if Scotland make it through group stages. With Shankland joining, will give us (I think) 6 players there.

Rohl with cheese, I know that. But this will be their best chance now with the number of teams in the comp. Top 2 from each group qualify, with 8 3rd place teams also qualifying. A good win over Haiti may be enough to get through.

I would imagine, if Shankland was to sign before World Cup, Hearts would be looking for compo as money lost for his appearance.

My thought was Shanklin was selected to play for Scotland as a Hearts player, so they may feel that, on top of losing a player, they stand to lose out on any appearance they would have gotten.
And, would he have been picked for Scotland if he was not a regular starter for Rangers? Also, will the pitch invasion get forgotten about, because clearly you can see Shanklin striking out at a fan, possibly goaded, but still lashing out.

I wouldn't think so, Teddy. The payment is essentially to compensate clubs for allowing their players to go to the World Cup in case of injury, etc. We'd also be paying Shankland's wages whilst he is unavailable due to the World Cup, not Hearts.
Hearts would be completely irrelevant in the situation, as he doesn't play for them, so there'd be no need for them to be paid, as injury would be a Rangers problem, not a Hearts problem.

As John says it would be split, and depending on contract situation it would be split differently.
World Cup starts 11 June.
Scottish Window opens 15 June, so if we register him on 15th we would get FIFA cash, but we would also have to pay his wages.
Are his wages more than the money we get?
If he has a 1 year contract with Hearts, it would finish 31 May, so he would technically be unemployed. If it is a 3 year contract ending 31 May 2028, then Hearts would get cash until we register him.

I had read that it's approximately £8200 per player per day. Was from the start of the training camp till at least the end of the group stages. Tidy amount for 5 players confirmed and looking likely it'll be 6.
