A lot of Rangers fans seem split right now: some see a highly promising coach who needs time, others see another manager who talks well but hasn't delivered when it mattered most and watched the team collapse at the first sign of serious pressure

For those who always say it took Gerrard three years to win the title, here's the real question:

Do we want success next season by winning the league immediately, or are we willing to accept that Rohl might need the same kind of time Gerrard did?

Are the owners and the majority of the fans prepared to be patient for two or three years if that's what it takes to build a title winning team?

The question is, Stig, what would we need to do to guarantee a win next season.

12 May 2026 20:44:52
Stig, if I was to see big improvements, a clear style of play, players fighting for each other, decent in Europe and maybe a Scottish Cup next season, I'd be gutted but I'd accept it for the bigger picture.

P.S. Also like to see our manager making the right subs at the right time, when a game is getting away from us.

What concerns me already is Danny Rohl had a good week on the training field with players between games for weeks in March and April, then a 2 week stint including Spanish training camp before the split, and we've regressed. He's had a lot of time on the training pitch with players these weeks, and we've been really poor.

Yeah, I agree with all that BB. ?

The big tel will be who we sign on summer.
Once again another huge turn around and as John keeps asking, will DR decide to stay?

If there is a chance he could decide to move closer to family, I hope the club are doing due diligence just now and not waiting until he walks if he does.

I'm not convinced by him though.
No matter what players we get, I don't see him being able to instil a fighting spirit or getting players to bust a gut for him.
Something just lacking for
me, if I'm honest, mate.

The Gerrard comparisons keep coming up. Gerrard showed tangible improvement. He made us compete and beat Celtic again. You could see clear patterns of play and the back line got progressively stronger.

Rohl started well and has gone backwards. The team has won 7 of the last 15 and is shipping goals for fun.

If the other team makes a change, he can't react. I also could never see Gerrard smirking and half laughing in a presser a few days after being beaten by Celtic and being 3rd in the league.

I'm not on the Gerrard back bandwagon, but we need someone who is a leader and will put fear into the players.

Agree, Blue89.

There's a clear difference between a head coach and a manager. Rangers need a manager. Someone who leads, someone who inspires, someone who knows what Rangers Football Club means.

I don't care about patterns of play, coaching styles, inverted wing backs or Tiki taka Pep Gaurdiola nonsense.

I care about finishing 3rd and not having the heart or the bottle.

You can't coach mentality - you either have it or you don't.

I sadly think Danny can't be manager anymore. He's not got what it takes at the moment.

If we keep Rohl, as it looks likely, can't really see any major progress next year.
How long do we give Rohl, who so far has been unable to motivate team when chips are down?
We lack direction & any form of tactics.

I fear we are in for a hard season next year. They are going to strengthen big time next year.
Up to date, Rohl has lost any high pressure game, just does not have ability to change a game. We need better.

If things continue he'll be away for Christmas.

Gerrard clear style of play, he took 3 years to instill that.

How many times have people with better knowledge than any of us tell us the bigger challenge was that players were preconditioned for RM style of play and to change mid season was impossible.

Rohl set up initially to stop shipping goals, which happened, he brought feel good again at Ibrox, however, after stabilising he realised we now need to start attacking and scoring more, which we did but unfortunately this then meant we became attacking rather than defensive, the team wasn't fit enough to do the miles needed to get back and cover after attack broke down.

I am sure Rohl has a very good idea how he wants to set up his team and the tactics to deploy, he needs players that are fit and capable.

If anyone thinks with the current squad that any manager can compete against a stronger Hearts and Celtic next year then say so. To me it's no chance. So if we agree then that its the players then why is everything Rohl's fault.
