. well Raskin is not a 6 for Rangers even though he plays the 6 for Belgium. him and chuck in a 2 in middle of the parks not working as Raskin drops far too deep and chuck is left all alone and outnumbered in the middle of the park with most teams playing a 3 midfield. We have no way of dominating the most important part of the pitch playing like this and is why we can't control a game and the flip side of that is why we get torn to bits with 2 or 3 passes as the space between the 2 cm is glaringly obvious.

A 2 v3 in there is taking a chance but a 3 v 1 is suicide and that's the problem. We can't dominate the ball as we should to play and create we are getting played through with ease and it's the opposition that's creating. i'm asking for Barron / chuck as the 6 and 2 8s in Raskin n Dio to get a hold of the midfield.

Raskin is dropping to cover for Chucky's bad positioning and mistakes, that's why he's so deep. If Barron was there to do the running and defensive duties in and off the ball, and Dio was there to move the ball forward and hold possession while we get into positions in attack, Raskin could then do what he's good at and be more of an attacking threat and a goal threat.

Raskin's so deep because he's doing what the manager's telling him to do. Nothing to do with Chukwuani or his positioning. Raskin said so himself in an interview with the Rangers Review.

Stevie G, that is why I continually have said a player like Connor Barron is so important to how a midfield should function, as his engine and workrate allow our more technical midfielders to do their stuff where they can hurt opposition teams.

? I find it so simple to understand this, as I've never said Barron is a world beater, but he's good at what he does and every team needs a Connor Barron type. ?

The reason for Raskin dropping between the CBs is supposed to be against 2 strikers, so that he can create an overload and allow the full backs to move up. It's designed to drag a midfielder out, allowing the 2 wingers to come central and create an overload in the middle. The problem is Raskin is doing it against a single striker as well, and other players aren't doing what they're supposed to, plus Raskin isn't the greatest passer at times.

None of it has anything to do with Chukwuani.

This is all from the Rangers Review interview with Raskin, not my interpretation or analysis.

Correct, Ayrshire, there are predefined out of possession triggers and phases of play where Raskin should split the two centre backs.

When he was doing it against Motherwell, it should have triggered Sterling and Meghoma pushing up to restrict Motherwell breaking the press wide, and it should also have triggered Miovski and Chukwuani supporting the press centrally - none of this happened as Meghoma and Miovski were constantly out of position, and also that Thelo and Chukwuani were slow to adapt.

In possession though, Raskin was constantly having to drop deeper and deeper to get on the ball as the full backline were so ponderous on the ball - that includes Butland. This then meant we were equally as ineffective in possession as we were out of it, as Raskin dropping deep and Chukwuani pushing up left the middle of the park empty.
