@ Geesa,
What's your opinion on this year's spending and investment in the team?
Should we be expecting more consistency, better results, and improved performances on the pitch?
If we're talking about backing, then a considerable amount of money has clearly been spent on this squad.
Wasn't there discussion about players being brought in and the manager having to manage what he was given?
Or has Röhl already had input into transfers, both current and for this summer?
If we're saying the players aren't good enough and it's not the manager's fault, then what are we saying about the people responsible for recruitment? Are they not doing their job properly?
We can't have it both ways:
* Backing: around £38 million spent
* Players not good enough: not the manager's fault
If that's the case, then the responsibility has to fall somewhere so who is actually accountable if we've ended up with a group of players who aren't performing despite being well paid?
Either:
The manager is giving instructions and the players aren't capable of carrying them out
or
The instructions themselves aren't clear or good enough
There's always another side to it.
And bringing Steven Gerrard into it isn't relevant here. This has nothing to do with him he delivered 55.
It's up to the current manager to surpass that, get 56, and deliver success in Europe and the cups.
Right now, we're seeing players look unsure at times, and a manager who doesn't always appear experienced enough to change that.
If we want success, something has to improve but spending £40+ million every season isn't sustainable either.

We have sacked a manager, director of football, and a CEO this season. Is that not admission of fault and accountability in action?

Stig Dr has only had "maybe" a say in 3 of the signings, so he definitely can't be blamed for the players at his disposal. I'm pretty sure the ones responsible are gone, mate. I've said all along, as long as I see improvement from Rohl, which nobody can deny there has been, then I'll totally back him next year no matter the outcome this year. He needs to have his own players for us to properly judge.
Something else I've said all along is we need to be seeing some kind of identity in our football, as it's been horrendous all season, but don't attach much blame at Rohl, as he had to come in and, first and foremost, make us hard to beat. You're right though, Stig, it would be disastrous to spend all that money and finish 2nd or 3rd and miss out on the Champions League.

Stig, I asked the same question last night. The point being could be 3rd in the League this year and in the Conference, and the 49ers get off stock free.

The summer signings were poor. That is why Thelwell and Martin were both sacked. Rohl is here trying to pick up the pieces. Rohl did a bit of business in January, and Rommens and Naderi look very good prospects.
Olsen hasn't worked out, but we are not committed to keeping him. I thought the business done by Rohl in January was good. He will, of course, need a summer window to get a lot of this squad out, and bring his own team in.

Rohl, both Rommens and Chuckuwani said they were first approached in the summer. Rommens states he was carrying an injury, so the move was put off to January. These two and Olsen were not identified by Rohl.

I don't know about yourself or others, but I like that, John.
I don't mind a manager bringing in a couple of their own players, but believe we should be looking above and beyond the manager when recruiting.
Recruitment has advanced into a specialist area, and expecting a manager to have the skills needed to manage and the skills to recruit seems unreasonable imo.

Stig, I don't think we have spent wisely, though not sure how that has anything to do with Rohl, we got rid of the culprits, did we not.
I don't have a magic solution here, but I do know that we can't just keep changing managers every time we lose a game, it's just nonsense. In general, I think Rohl is doing a pretty decent job considering what he is working with.
imo he should be given more time.
And to Yately, if you believe the owners get off scotfree then you are very wrong, my friend. it's them that need to rejig the budgets and answer to the shareholders alike, if we didn't hit the targets.

I totally agree Tommy, same re style, it's meant to be dof sets style off play for the club, we leave it to the manager, then when he leaves we need a clear out.
Mark Allen tried to push this, but as soon as he and Gerrard left, it was binned.
If you look at this fancy 4222, our fullbacks get destroyed, as the twos are all inside.
If it was me I'd go fast moving 433 press.
30 Apr 2026 18:32:23
Prefer 4231 or 433 myself.
30 Apr 2026 18:50:17
Agree with that, John, good input. ?

I have no time for this talk about 'the manager did not scout them personally therefore they are not his signings'. I have heard this argument for years, and with various managers.
Walter Smith did not personally scout Carlos Cuellar so is it fair to say he was not one of his signings, John? Morelos was not personally scouted by Pedro so is he not one of his signings? If the manager must do all of the scouting in person before he gets any credit or blame then let us apply that across the board, and to every manager throughout our history. You'll find that many signings are guys who have been recommended by another human being (like a scout, that's why we have them). Why is this my point of view? Fans become very hypocritical if you let them and will blame the manager when a signing does not work out, and refuse to credit him when it does.
It's ridiculous. As far as I'm concerned, if a player is signed under the tenure of any manager then that is their responsibility. Danny Rohl is accountable for the players signed in January. If he must take the blame when it doesn't work out, he gets credit when it does. You don't get to pick and choose.
Also, this does not change the fundamental point I made in this thread. This current Rangers team is not Danny Rohl's squad by any means. He had almost no hand in it. This is a large squad of players that were brought here by men who are no longer at the club because they were incompetent. Danny Rohl was brought in to pick up the pieces and that is what he's doing. We had a good January window and Danny Rohl gets all the credit for bringing Rommens, Chuck, and Naderi to this club.
