BT there are few of on here that all feel exactly the same way. For far too long our club hasn't picked up the best Scottish talent (snobbery for me) but our foreign managers don't get it. Our budget is far bigger than everyone except Celtic. But we play in Scotland where the quality isn't great but what Scottish guys make up for tgat is passion and a wil to win. For the last couple of decades we have lost all identity .
including managers . SG being the exception. ( he is a winner) he inherited a terrible team but each year we got closer until well we all know what happened. I'm not saying exactly that Mcinnes should be our manager ( well maybe) but do you think he wouod have turned his nose up at shankland or mulligan. Boys who know our league and know what it means.
27 Apr 2026 19:45:19
Not one Scottish player in our starting 11 yesterday, Rab. I would be willing to bet that most of those 11 players would have been more interested in the social media notifications on their mobile phones rather than what the manager had to say at full time.
27 Apr 2026 19:49:49
And yet, Rohl inherited a team in terrible form, and has us challenging for the title in a few months, not 3 years.
Danny Rohl has not "turned his nose up" at anyone.
He was not here in summer, it was Scotland international Russell Martin that "turned his nose up".
Your arguments do not hold water, unfortunately.
27 Apr 2026 19:58:36
Rab, a Gerrard team never consisted of the best Scottish talent in the SPFL either.
McGregor - returning hero
Tavernier - English
Goldson - English
Helander - Swedish
Barasic - Croatian
Davis - Northern Irish returning hero
Kamara - Finnish
Aribo - Nigerian
Hagi - Romanian
Kent - English
Morelos - Columbian.
Granted, other squad players included.
Ryan Jack
Scott Arfield - Scottish born Canadian
3 Scottish players, 2 Scottish internationals.
John Souttar
Connor Barron
Liam Kelly
3 Scottish players, 3 Scottish internationals.
Again, arguments hold no water.

No-one knows if Rangers will recruit any home grown players in the summer.
Ironically, due to the quality that's been on show from some Scottish clubs this year, some of the players' prices will have inflated and possibly priced us out the market for them.
27 Apr 2026 20:09:00
It's still snobbery to an extent, Aphelion, because there's talent in our league that we should be looking to sign and not just Scottish players. ?
27 Apr 2026 20:11:35
Ah, the old snobbery tag, nothing to do with that at all. Then the Scottish thing, also when we have Scottish in the squad. It's the same old same old.
27 Apr 2026 20:15:06
Snobbery from whom, SWS? Please name the ones responsible.
Name the players in our league that we should have targeted since Rohl took over and their respective cost?
27 Apr 2026 20:16:47
Ryan Jack and Arfield weren't squad players. Stop making up stuff to suit your narrative, Aphe. Also Patterson and Stewart were part of the squad who are Scottish, and Arfield is Canadian but knew the league from his younger years.
27 Apr 2026 20:21:54
Strom, it's not snobbery.
People wanted Bowie Hibs sold for around 9 million Euros.
Rangers signed Naderi for 5 million.
Would you have taken Harry Milne over Tuur Rommens, sws?
Who would have been the direct option for Chukwuani?
Skov Olsen is a loan, and, granted, has not worked out so far.
Would Motherwell have given us Just or Maswanhise on loan?
No.
No snobbery, just better business.
27 Apr 2026 20:24:21
G4, will I word it to other players in the squad?
27 Apr 2026 20:34:12
There's 6 or 7 players in our league that would be suited to us 3, eh, them beat us yesterday. Ones Luke Graham, Barney Stewart, Josh Mulligan, Lawrence Shankland. Don't need to start every game, but actually have a bit of dig about us, with boys actually willing to fight for their places.
The only two players that turned up were
Manny n Chermiti n that's because they're playing for a move away.
27 Apr 2026 20:40:13
I have never said not to sign domestic players, I certainly would advocate for that.
I asked deliberately pointed questions to see where we could have got a domestic alternative to the players signed.
I understand Luke Graham was one we tried to get over the line.
27 Apr 2026 20:55:44
I can't believe we didn't pick up Shankland and McKenna on free transfers in the summer. Historically, not picking up Lewis Ferguson and getting rid of Ross McCrorie were big mistakes.
27 Apr 2026 20:57:47
Not sure if it's snobbery but imo it's definitely a lack of foresight.
Could have had Shankland on a free, leader and goal scorer. He also knows what it means to play for our club and in Scotland.
Although I'm happy with Danny Rohl, we could have missed the Russel Martin debacle if we'd moved heaven and earth to convince Derick McInnes to come and be manager at the beginning of the season.
I'm glad we had the foresight to appoint Water Smith when Graeme Souness left.
27 Apr 2026 21:07:25
Aphelion, settle down, my friend. ? You get so defensive when another poster thinks different from yourself, mate. ? We all have our opinions and imo there's players playing for so-called smaller clubs in our league who I'd have at Rangers, ie. Maswanhise, Just, Watt, Graham, Braga.
27 Apr 2026 21:14:53
Why does everyone now come out with the "defensive" nonsense.
You can't answer any of my questions, that is fair.
Stop using my name in your statements if you cannot answer the follow up, SWS.
27 Apr 2026 21:16:29
SWS, I am more than happy for others to think differently.
I do like when that poster is able to explain their different viewpoint, not just throw in statements and emojis with no substance.
27 Apr 2026 20:32:29
This is all nonsense and let me explain why:
When Rangers were in the lower leagues we had a Scottish manager in McCoist. We signed lots of players from Scotland many of whom were Rangers fans. It was the worst Rangers team I have ever seen in my life. Rangers fans insisted we bring managers and players in from abroad because the talent pool in Scotland was so poor. We even had a phrase for it - "Sign SPFL sh***, become SPFL sh***". Remember that?
We've gone full circle. We had a Scottish manager, we brought back Boyd Miller, we had Scottish POTY candidates in Nicky Law and Dean Shiels, etc. It failed. Now we are being told that we can't win with guys from abroad we NEED the Scottish element. The club is like a dog chasing its own tail.
27 Apr 2026 20:40:20
How can an institution like Rangers get everything so spectacularly wrong every year? Caixhina, Van Brockhurst, Beale, Clements, Martin and in my opinion Rohl all not good enough. Then you get Antman Aasgaard, Aaron, Gassama Olsen, etc etc.
where do we get those very average injury prone and now one (allegedly) with mental health problems.? .Who sanctions the signings of those players? .Looks like another barren season. I'm sick to death of being unable to gloat at winning something.
27 Apr 2026 23:30:17
I don't think it's snobbery or even a lack of talent in the SPFL, I think it's obvious that Rangers don't want to do any serious business with Scottish teams after they mostly all voted us out of the SPFL. Only Hearts seems to be the exception. Templeton for 990k, Lafferty for half mill, Holt 90k. From other clubs, Greg Docherty was over 700k, and Scott Wright and Glen Kamara were small fees also, but there have been loads of free transfers, Cameron being the latest. But going back to Ryan Jack, Jordan Jones, Jake Hastie, Danny Wilson, Connor Barron, John Souttar, Liam Kelly, Kris Boyd, Kenny Miller, Ian Black, David Bates, John Daly, Sandaza and others.
Every one of them important players for the teams we got them from, but with one thing in common, and that is little to no transfer fee. Before that time we always spent good money at home. Whittaker, Boyd, Naismith, Miller, Thompson, Wallace, big Dunc, McCann, Robertson, Ian Ferguson, Novo Caniggia off the top of my head. 2012 was a real line in the sand when you look at our spending money in Scottish football.
28 Apr 2026 07:23:46
Gal, an excellent post.
28 Apr 2026 07:37:18
Sorry, Aph, but you mentioned Skov Loam and better business. That's laughable, I'm afraid.
28 Apr 2026 09:56:39
Thanks, John, appreciate that. Had to do some homework on it ha ha.
28 Apr 2026 18:18:45
Gal, that's a very interesting theory you have come up with concerning the signing of Scottish players.
When you look at your listings of the players signed and the fees paid, there could be something in your theory.
You have given us food for thought. You are the first person I have seen making this point.
Thanks for such a good post.
