Done some research and apparently League 1 in England is also more of an "Elite" league than the SPFL.
Though they don't include it as the data is skewed by the money that the TV deals in England get.
Ranked 37th.

27 Jan 2026 17:59:42
Mph Kilmarnock and Livingston played in league one this season they would be in league two next season mate, many clubs in our league are signing players playing non league in England?

27 Jan 2026 18:11:18
MPH rankings I read were English League 1 in 41St

English championship 7th
Eridivisie 11
Danish Superliga 12
Polish Ekstraklasa 13
Swedish Allsvenskan 16
Croatia top flight 17
La liga 2. 20
Eliteserien 21
Serie B 29
2.Bundesliga 30
Scottish premiership 33.

27 Jan 2026 18:11:51
I said that earlier bud, but may have been missed??.

27 Jan 2026 18:16:20
If Hearts Rangers and Celtic played in the Championship this season they would be in the Prem next season.

27 Jan 2026 18:21:03
there is a difference though between elite and better/higher rated. I can't comment on whether league 1 is better than the SPFL but I doubt any of the teams would come near the elite level lists discussed in other threads.

so "elite" refers to teams, academies, or organisations operating at the absolute highest level of performance, structure, and professional standards. It distinguishes them from amateur, recreational, or lower-tier professional clubs. so not League 1 then.

27 Jan 2026 18:39:41
And that is where it gets confusing Angus ?

FC. Köln are the standard bearers for German academies.
An Elite institution alongside VFL Bochum, Hertha and Schalke.

None of those clubs are considered Elite.

27 Jan 2026 18:53:34
Gerry the Championship in england is a better standard than the SPFL, let it go.

27 Jan 2026 18:55:31
Is stig not talking about the SPFL being 37th as that's what I found earlier?

27 Jan 2026 18:55:46
App, I would take those figures with a large pinch of Salt.

With all due respect the Swedish league is not at the level of Scottish football. And I'm very critical of our league.

I think we are a 20-25 level league. But still way above Sweden and in fact any of the Scandanavian leagues.

That said, Take Rangers and Celtic out the league and we would be lucky to be in the top 50.

No disrespect.

27 Jan 2026 18:57:07
Aph, that said they are still impressive league considering football isn't even their No.1 or national sport.

27 Jan 2026 18:59:19
Opta have League one at 36th one above the SPFL in 37th, other level ratifiers may list it differently.

27 Jan 2026 19:05:27
Aphelion was that from FRL as they have them at 41st? Different lists have different positions, it will have a wide range of variables depending on how the various lists were collated.

27 Jan 2026 19:25:39
Opta was the one I saw, Fork.

27 Jan 2026 19:31:48
Yes Fork it was that site.

But as you say many will be listed differently but they are very similar.

And zikos you have just evidenced why all the Scandinavian leagues are ranked higher than the SPFL.

The SPFL is only in the position it is because of the old firm.

27 Jan 2026 19:32:36
And you are entitled to your opinion but you cannot argue with the factual evidence.

27 Jan 2026 19:35:51
As we are applying OPTA I thought I would add there rankings so we are all taking it from the same reputable analysts.

Danish Superliga 10th
2.Bundesliga 23rd
Eliteserien 24th
Allsvenskan 30th
SPFL 37th.

27 Jan 2026 19:36:30
No worries Mph?.

27 Jan 2026 19:52:03
Gerry. If Hearts, Rangers or Celtic were in the championship next season they would be in league 1 the following season not the premiereship.

27 Jan 2026 20:12:42
Per 100,000 capita, isn't the SPFL the highest average attendance in Europe?

27 Jan 2026 20:14:08
No they wouldn't whatsmyname, total lies. Also how many more threads are we going to start on elite teams/leagues?

27 Jan 2026 20:18:25
Whatsmyname, couldn't see that mate, but the Norwich squad has many quality players and look at them before Clement, so you never know.
Rangers and Celtic are better than clubs in leagues ranked higher.

27 Jan 2026 20:32:31
and we are back to the difference between facts and opinion. ???.

27 Jan 2026 20:36:39
Blame Gerry Sinclair (possibly Coldo? ) For opening a can of worms earlier.

27 Jan 2026 20:58:11
Tav. Would Coventry win the SPL? no they wouldn't. The championship is more competitive and has more money but its not a better level that's why the majority of championship players fail in Scotland.

{Ed001's Note - do Coventry win the Championship? No they don't, so your argument is nonsense.}

27 Jan 2026 21:59:41
I honestly think the we'd be mid table in the Championship.

27 Jan 2026 22:00:41
This place is bonkers, and you're contradicting yourself by offering an opinion not an actual FACT just your opinion. Same as what u done to My Star.
Championship ranked 6th
Spfl ranked 37th
Players failing up here has no bearing on factual information, you are just on trying to stir the ? Ed turf him oot.

27 Jan 2026 22:42:26
EHL I'm thinking similar, first season or two, we'd be struggling for the playoffs, some very good clubs in that league, hard league getting out.

28 Jan 2026 03:13:18
Aph, there isn't anything factual about these rankings. It's based on Opta opinion of what they think are metrics to measure the standard of a league.

It's absolutely crazy to even consider the Danish league as being in the top 10 leagues in the world when in actual fact they probably aren't in the top 50, if you were to base it on how people traditionally rate a league. Revenue, attendances, the number of quality/international players etc etc.

28 Jan 2026 05:56:14
So every recognised compiler of statistical data and facts like Uefa, Fifa and various others are all wrong to use availiable factual information to compile a ranking list, ok you'll be right.
