A question for debate, what would your chosen formation be and why.
I know things change within the game but what is your preferred option.

I always liked the good old fashioned 442.

I prefer a 4-2-3-1 double pivot personally.
Although a 4-3-3 is also high in my opinion.
I personally don't like a 3 CB system at all. Never will.

Natural tiangles all over the pitch and a solid foundation or attack without compromising on width.

I always preferred 442 or 4411, but football has changed, 4231 or 433, maybe even 4141 is some league games, long as the system is fluid that works for me.

4231, although when we play away in Europe back 5 sometime a must. Fergie perfected it last season away to fenerbache.

There are so many formations that only exist for TV Infographics or computer games that aren't actually used in coaching.
I'd go 4-3-3.

A proper No.10 is key in the 4231. Aph is bang on with the advantages of this formation?.

I like 4231, similar reason to those mentioned, quite attack minded but solid at the same time.
But for Rangers I really like 433 with 2 attack minded 8s and a six. Think the late runs into box by the 8s causes the most problems to a low block team alongside good wide players. Also tried and tested with most winners playing a variety of this for years.

I'm old fashioned to. I never liked one man up front. Loved proper wingers going down the line rather than everything cutting inside.

3-5-2 if you can prefect it and play it well it's unstoppable but many teams can't.
