Steven Davis has played his last game for Rangers. He's injured for the rest of the season, and there will be no new contract issued - A payoff is immanent.

Scope now to get a new central midfielder in during the January window.

Ali mccann.

That is terrible news for him. He has been such a player for us over the years.

Not a chance of any payoff the guy has been outstanding for this club. Poor comment.
Get a grip.

There will be no pay off,

5.) 24 Dec 2022
24 Dec 2022 19:21:31
We need, and can surely get, better than Ali McCann!

6.) 24 Dec 2022
24 Dec 2022 19:27:32
Christensen, our own Charlie McCann is better, he's already here and is up to speed. Time to give him a real go.

Surely his wages would be covered by insurance? And we would allow him access to resources and specialist functions to help him recover (given he has said previously he wants to keep playing) until his contract ends. Great servant and I hope he's treated well through his injury and recovery.

I really hope he gets a testimonial.

Is it possible a true Blue Ranger can be given a testimonial match?
He has done our club proud
All the best SD.

How is paying him off a poor comment? The guy won't kick a ball for us again. Rather than him being on the books collecting a weekly wage until the summer, we come to some arrangement where by he gets a lump sum now. This frees up both parties to move on. Davis might want to pursue a career in punditry, or coaching, like most ex professionals with his experience. Once he’s officially off our books we can go and get another CM in having budgeted everything out. This is how a business works. It has nothing to do with emotional sentiment.

I'm hearing possible coaching role for rest of the season.

12.) 25 Dec 2022
24 Dec 2022 23:35:07
Of course he isn't getting paid off, the club will treat him with the very best care whilst he is contracted.

13.) 25 Dec 2022
25 Dec 2022 03:57:11
I'm not sure many of you even know what ‘pay off’ means. It means he will be paid most, if not all, of his remaining contract up front. It‘s not uncommon in football, and both parties must agree to it - It’s not that hard guys . I suspect many of you are confusing it with ‘laid off’ ?

Can you guys get over this utter nonsense and get back to talking about who we’re going to bring in to replace him in January? Thanks ??.

14.) 25 Dec 2022
25 Dec 2022 08:33:11
VA we all know what it means but we are all saying it’s not happening and it shouldn’t happen either.

15.) 25 Dec 2022
25 Dec 2022 09:07:26
No payoff imminent for Davis, as long as Mick Beale is the manager Steven will be assisting him. He has been doing his coaching badges and will be staying as part of the coaching staff .

16.) 25 Dec 2022
25 Dec 2022 10:03:15
VA: It would probably cost Rangers more to pay Davis off - given that insurance will cover a chunk of his salary.

Also, what is the benefit of a pay off to Davis? In normal circumstances it's to facilitate the player moving on - which he can't due to his injury.

So it makes no commercial/ financial sense to either party.

Forget Ali Mccann, Charlie Mccann is in the squad already.

verdant i think we do. paying off someone who has served our club with great distinction would be a new low.

he signed a contract and is entitled to have it paid in full, also told Park is to pay his salary till fit if he is out beyond june.

With the benefit of now having the B team playing competitive football. I would love it for a couple of veterans (2 max) to play alongside the youngsters as well as taking up coaching roles.

In the games I’ve seen they definitely lack that but of maturity in the field. Not necessarily to win matches but to play better football. Make the right runs, take up the right positions etc.

Helping to nurture and bring though the next crop. I know it’s a massive step down for players such as Davis, but think we could still offer more in wages than other SPFL teams and get t would be a good position to start coaching/ managing. Think some (not all) players would be up for it.

What a career. the bmena man lived the dream.

Thankyou.

25 Dec 2022 17:37:04
I certainly hope the club don’t even contemplate a pay off he has been a great servant to the club, now it’s time to give him the best medical treatment he richly deserves and make sure he’s ok, I don’t know if there is any plans for him in a coaching roll but no pay off for me that would be a disgraceful situation to put him in.

22.) 25 Dec 2022
25 Dec 2022 19:03:08
Stills poor crass comment verdant. which lacks a tad of sympathy…. Why not be sympathetic to such a servant and think of him at this time . Might be a tad pious but if anyone deserves the sentiment he does . No need to defend your post though we know where you are coming from.

23.) 26 Dec 2022
26 Dec 2022 02:24:04
Christ sake can we let him get his surgery etc before there's talk of pay offs for him, and btw, the club will honour his contract in full nonsense talking about paying him off, and yes, like everyone else, I know the difference between pay and lay offs, think you need to lay off the egg nog.

24.) 26 Dec 2022
26 Dec 2022 09:36:38
I still don’t think any of you know what ‘pay off’ means in all honesty.

Anyway, who is going to replace this guy who will never play for Rangers again?

25.) 26 Dec 2022
26 Dec 2022 11:33:10
Verdant, you’ve now posted 3 times to your own thread trying to justify your original post. Clearly people don’t agree with you and yes we do all understand what a pay off means.

26.) 26 Dec 2022
26 Dec 2022 13:28:43
Bad day when even I think you're at it verdant.

27.) 26 Dec 2022
26 Dec 2022 13:56:37
Feel for you here verdant. The responses have been so unjustified it makes me think they don't understand what pay off means in football either. When it's apparent that a player will never play for the club again due to injury its a massively common thing for both players and club to come to a mutual agreed sum to part ways. Reasons for this may include to free the player up for media, coaching courses if he wanted to do his badges, family ties etc that due to his contract wouldn't be able to do without breach of contract. Its almost done out of respect to the player if anything so to suggest the opposite it's ludicrous. I'd love to see him back in a coaching role but I'm also 99% sure he will leave the club before he returns. Great servant to the club, who deserves a testimonial.

{Ed001's Note - it is far from common. It rarely happens because the players are treated on the club's insurance, if they are paid off that would not happen.}

28.) 26 Dec 2022
26 Dec 2022 14:17:04
Lundstramloyal that is absolute nonsense. If it is so common, can you name 3 recent examples in scotland or Britain?

29.) 26 Dec 2022
26 Dec 2022 14:46:34
In the first instance Rangers and Davis will be covered under Rangers Sports Injury Insurance which effectively means that any medical requirements will be covered as will Davis injury unless it is an old injury which rangers have claimed for previously and they are claiming for that again which in this instance is highly unlikely.
Depending on the terms of the Insurance Policy Rangers might also be able to claim further if Davis was unable to play again although admittedly in this instance that is unlikely due to Davis age and the fact that his contract is due to end at the end of the Season.
I struggle to see where there is any benefit to either Party to terminate the contract early, even if both Parties wished this unless a arrangement was agreed with the Insurance Underwriter and again I cannot see why this would happen. (Incidentally I used to underwrite Sports Injury Insurance)!

30.) 26 Dec 2022
26 Dec 2022 14:58:00
Defoe (and others) have done media and coaching work whilst contracted. I also don't think the responses are unjustified and I'm actually quite pleased to see the majority want the club to support Davis through this - we don't always agree on here but it seems we all want to see our legends looked after and respected (exactly the way it should be) .

31.) 26 Dec 2022
26 Dec 2022 21:36:38
All this showed was some people didn't realise that insurance companies exist.

32.) 26 Dec 2022

Lundstramloyal bit of a own goal there and still we await your examples please.

Paying Davis off is not the rangers way you must be too young a fan if you don't know this.

He has served us well and I would love to see him come through as a coach at rangers he is a well respected professional.

Totally agree John especially when it's an injury or a guy that's served us well.
