{Ed's Note - EHL2020 has posted a new article entitled, Rangers Recruitment: Patience Versus Immediate Demands
19 Sep 2026 14:14:08
That's a very good read EHL. I think deep down we all know that's the correct approach but as you highlight we are all just, sometimes, so very harsh and demanding. If we can get that balance right on and away from the pitch we'll be in a good place. There will be bumps in the road but hopefully not tomorrow 😆💙.

I think recruitment last summer was poor, particularly the quantity of loan signings and is reflected in how many of the players brought in then that are starting for us regularly.
Since then I have been happy with it. January and summer were 2 good windows and for the first time in a while I feel we have a balanced squad. Still a little light on experience which may prove difficult if we have a close title challenge. I was also particularly happy with who we let go in the summer, not disappointed by any departure.
I really don't mind a young squad myself, good to watch players develop, potential resale for both successes and failures and it also feels like we are building for the future with players developing with experience.
My biggest concern in the summer was another managerial change without any continuity. But after a poor start DM has turned it around quickly and while we have still a long way to go I have more confidence it can work out well for us.

Another informative and well presented offering EHL, Thanks for taking the time, it is appreciated. You have highlighted a few things that i had not been aware of. It would appear that our more recent acquisitions are a substantial upgrade on what we had going into pre season so i will offer praise where it's due to the recruitment team having previously lambasted them on occasion.

AI used in this article EHL?

Doesn't really matter otters does it?
Great post Ehl, I wouldn't ever write a player or manager off until they've had a fair crack at it, but at the same time can totally understand where the frustrations, quick judgement can come from with some tbh, it's scar tissue after failure after failure with managers and players.
Players and managers shouldn't be judged on previous managers and players performances, yet they do, because the failure of the season/seasons before is still lingering, something I've never agreed with.

Great read EHL, the biggest problem was the loans last year particularly when you get to the last few games the loaned players are thinking about other things people will be in there ears regarding there future they won't be all in trying to win that's my thoughts anyway.
This year the recruitment has been excellent squad players that know the club first team players with real quality that will only improve & give us a real potential of winning things then of course increasing there value if we choose to sell.

Echo BB it's a great post, whether EHL used or didn't use AI is of no concern, he looked into it and posted it, done his research and submitted what he found and what he thinks. If AI or Ed tidied it up then so what.👍👍.

Im still on the fence regarding our recruitment past and present season. Till we consistently perform and win something it's just opinion. What I will say is we have spent big money (again) on either well thought out and strategic options or we have lost out on targets and jumped in and pad over the odds to ensure new faces in the door.
I am happier now than I was a few weeks ago but Time will tell if it's the answer to our question or just another disappointment waiting to happen.
Rev i'm Jolly I know but hey hoo that's a west coast upbringing for you.

Otters, yip.
Most of the little articles I post start their life as voice recordings, which I make whilst travelling.
I use Word to convert them to text and then CoPilot to convert them to a short article for posting.
The awesome Eds then work their magic and make them even better.

Not sure that we could class the January window as a success, we made 4 signings to help us win the title and we didn't. Skov Olsen was a waste of a wage who didn't have the heart for the battle.
Chukwuani made little impact and is now on the fringes despite costing £4million, Rommens looks the part but has been injured for long spells both last season and this and Naderi only scored a couple of goals and then was out injured for a long spell too.
He is rightly getting praised for his work rate but hasn't looked like the goal scorer we needed last January and still doesn't to be fair. Its looking like a possible 50% success rate which would be decent but isn't definite yet.

Appreciate your work and understanding EHL. Agree and accept what u have written. It's hard to balance the patience with expectation. One problem I do feel they have brought though with their recruitment strategy if that's the correct term is the completely different styles of management which has meant totally ripping up and starting again making long term planning a problem.
Martin dismantling Clement's foundations, Rohl trying to repair the damage and now McInnes trying to rebuild again from scratch. We need to find some sort of consistent plan that doesn't mean the team being completely derailed even if there is a managerial change.

EHL it wasn't a criticism and I think you knew that. I use AI daily for my business so I can usually spot articles that are structured by it. It's a great tool and ultimately it relies on the article writer feeding it the critical information. Great post.

Otters i never thought it was criticism mate, just thought it didn't need to be mentioned, that was all pal 👍.
