SPFL now ranked joint 32nd, with the Greek League in world football.
Pretty grim.

EHL totally grim. 🇬🇧

Not surprising given Scottish teams European results over the past few years.

Results in Europe are an obvious downward driver, though fundamentals such as long-term strategies (both clubs and national associations) and total potential revenues (especially local TV deals) are root causes. TV deals will always be limiting for us in Scotland, and our fanbase isn't especially keen on long-term strategies.

GMJ, any kind of strategy at all would be better than we have at the moment.
03 Aug 2026 08:12:35
Will only get even more grim.

Was anyone expecting anything better? The league is a joke, run by a bunch of inept jokers.
Take away our previous European exploits, and you are left with total mince. Even then, our exploits are a distant memory!

European league phase football will be harder and harder to get to. Next season qualification will be very tough no matter if you win the league.

And this has a direct impact on our ability to sign players. The standard of the SPFL, along with the incompetence coming from the SFA, is not appealing as many of our fan base think. Unfortunately, we're stuck in an appalling domestic league, based in a dirty city, and the highest earners get taxed at 48%. We've not got the shine to outsiders we once did.
It's hard to swallow for many, but that's the way it is. I think the club are really struggling to attract the quality we think we need. Bang average players are going everywhere for north of £15million! Frustrating? Yes, 100%. With the money in football now, I just don't see it changing.

I think it's something we can all agree on is that the people running Scottish football are inept. Big changes are needed.

Ok Peter, but their families have to leave the house? What about the rest of the points? You're paid 30k a week, the top earner, and you're getting bumped for 48% tax! What about the standard of the league? The winters, the price of bang average players being moved for 15million quid. It's an accumulation of problems outwith the clubs' control in some regards. I have absolutely no doubts we've tried to secure targets for the final 3rd, but they've probably weighed up the offer and thought, as big a club as Rangers is, with its history, the stadium etc., for 13 years they've been chronic, then add the above.
It's so difficult, with the money in football, to compete with clubs in better domestic leagues.
Last point, if you're a good player, you're most likely at PSG getting paid a huge amount of money. I'm sure you'd put up with Paris if you're on north of half a million a month?
03 Aug 2026 09:48:41
Iron Rangers, am not sure the players were trying to attract to the city will be staying in rough schemes. They be staying in very nice areas. Look at Paris, it's probably one of the dirtiest cities in Europe and they get by ok.

SPFL now ranked joint 32nd. To be brutally honest, I'm surprised we are actually that high. Let's be honest here, the SPFL is a total joke, we have 2 teams that compete, and in the past few years only one, as we have been mince (hate to be so brutal but we have not moved on since 2012). Yes we stopped 'Terry Munro' but that's it, we continue to flatter to deceive.
However I digress, our league is shocking, plastic pitches, shot crowds and literally no funding, we have become a joke of a league and show no signs of moving forward as the big investors have no interest in us.
Sorry for being Mr negativity.

If it stops Celtic from getting guaranteed Champions League football every year it might actually be a good thing.
