Hi all,
I created a post a few days ago talking about a realistic signing I feel would take us to the next level: Dion Beljo.
I've put together an extended list of other targets from around Europe that I think are realistic and fit a similar recruitment profile.
Here are some of my favourite picks:
Fabio Fehr – 26 – Right-back – FC Thun (Switzerland)
£2–5m
Elliot Stroud – 23 – Left-back – Mjällby (Sweden)
£4–7m
Toni Fruk – 25 – Attacking midfielder – Rijeka (Croatia)
£9–13m
Luka Stojković – 22 – Midfielder – Dinamo Zagreb (Croatia)
£8–15m
Matteo Di Giusto – 25 – Attacking midfielder – Luzern (Switzerland)
£6–9m
Rokas Pukštas – 21 – Midfielder – Hajduk Split (Croatia)
£6–8m
If we win the league and reach Champions League football, I fully expect us to invest properly in the squad. That's why I've focused on players in this kind of price range.
What I like about this group is that they are all performing at a high level in their respective leagues, but haven't necessarily received the wider recognition you might expect.
Happy to hear thoughts or discuss any of the players

Good list, Rangers 06. I do feel that some of the Croats are beyond reach.
I know nothing of the Swiss players, but will do some research on them.

Never saw your post about Beljo, but I do agree he is the type of player we should be going after.
Also, surprised that Fruk hasn't moved, as any time I've seen him, he has looked really tidy.

Yeah, I agree with that Fruk statement. Never managed to make that jump to the big European leagues, so we could possibly be the team to push him on.
And, Aphelion,
That's a totally fair assessment. I do disagree as I see the potential money we can bring in next season, but I respect your opinion greatly.

There's already a proven pathway from Croatia, Switzerland, and Austria to the Bundesliga.
Would be a real coup to disrupt it and sign any of those players, especially with the forthcoming changes to European qualification for the SPL.

Difficult signing someone of those unless we have European football.

Again, both great comments from OWS and EHL.
But you are totally correct, trying to take players out of that pipeline is very difficult, and without Champions League football I don't imagine these types of players would be in our reach, all very much dependent on us winning the league, and I respect it's an unpredictable game, but need to keep that faith that we are more than capable to do it.
Also, back to the pipeline, think these are the risks we need to be taking, what's the worst they can say, no?

Rangers 06, the worst that can happen is we get strung along as a back up whilst they negotiate or wait for other deals - we've seen this countless times.
We end up losing out on the player, missing other potential targets, and with a shortened window to sign alternatives.
Slightly different calibre of player, but this exact issue happened in the summer with Coady. Martin was all in for him and we prioritised his signature - we were a back up for him whilst he secured a move that kept him and his family down south.

Then we need to be smarter as a club, we need to have back ups lined up. Need to be ruthless, player doesn't see us as first choice and drags us along, then they are no longer an option. Also hypothetically if we were to go for any of the players on my list, I have countless backups for each position who could come in and take that place.
But definitely that's a big issue for many clubs, but we cannot allow ourselves to become that type of second choice club, we're massive and if players don't respect that then we need to cut ties quicker, can't have another corner Corey dragging us along to get his wages up elsewhere.

Rangers 06, the issue is that the rest of the footballing world doesn't stand still whilst we negotiate.
You say we don't want to be second choice, and if we are to cut the ties - that exact logic can be flipped and applied to players.
Often a player wants to go where they are first choice, so if we stall interest whilst we focus on another deal, guess what, we quickly end up losing out of our second and third choices - all of which has happened over recent seasons.
