Just watched the first part of a podcast with Thomson and Mulgrew talking about Rangers this season and I absolutely agree with everything Thomson said.
He said when he looks at the team they are too scared to make mistakes and the first sign of groans, boos and moans they start taking the safe option. Mulgrew spoke about Aasgaard and he said what I've thought for a while that Aasgaard plays too deep and won't stand between the lines forcing teams to make decisions. They both said Aarons looks scared and a big point from Thomson was that when he joined Rangers he was looking to players like mccoist, durrant, Walter, Ferguson and they showed him what it meant to be a Rangers man. They showed him how to be successful. He even pointed out brown learning from other for that mob and McGregor learning from brown. Then said who do the new boys look to in this squad.
The last point he made was that to play for Rangers you need to have "rhino skin". You need to be able to take a risk, mess it up, take the boos and groans and abuse, and then try it again 5 minutes later. He mentioned a goal he scored in a 3-3 draw with Dundee United and said he had sliced one minutes before and took boos then he took another shot and scored, after the game mccoist said to him now that's some personality to do that after the boos. This is what we lack as well as the intensity.

I've said and I've known for many many years, Ibrox is a very difficult place to play, not like Parkhead at all. It's extremely intimidating because of its very nature, it's more compact than most big stadia, has the fans right on top at all sides and has a unique atmosphere, not always a nice atmosphere and is very prone to almost complete silence.
This is when players who thrive on confidence struggle, if the mis pass or lose ball they can hear whatever is being said very close by. the place can get like a morgue, and with thousands of fans there in silence it is not a nice place to play. I've said many times and said at the time, the team thrived during covid and had never been better, there's obvious reasons for that. i love Ibrox, but, at the back of my mind has always been the knowledge that many players just don't adapt to it at all.

Think that's why for that short spell we actually played better and more freely at Hampden plus the way Hampden is it gives the illusion of more space on the pitch because the fans are further away.

Agree tt about the atmosphere at Ibrox it's like a library most of the time apart from old firm games and Europe and even then not as good as it once was.

Ayrshire, that's absolutely why we should never have sold big cyriel Dessers mate ie. immense attitude and even after missing numerous chances in a game, he was always back in there again to take the next one ?Big CD9 never hid and absolutely had that thick skin to play for Rangers with one of the very best attitudes and work ethic, i've seen at Ibrox in years ???I don't care if he was 30 years old and we were getting nearly £5million for him we shouldn't have sold him and selling for age etc is not always the correct thing to do ?For god's sake the big fella had scored 29 goals that previous season, now between all our forward players, they can't get near 29 goals between them ☹️.

I agree and disagree SWS. I think Dessers optimised this but I also think that because we replaced him incredibly poorly doesn't mean to replace him was wrong.
I'm at the point I believe mentality should be the top priority in signings and then ability. We need folk with a chip on their shoulder. Players who almost want to prove us wrong when we moan and groan, boo, etc. Kinda like a "aww is that right? I'll show you what I can do".
We need winners and leaders. I'm going to do a Rangers fan special and go historical but someone like a Darius Olaru is someone we should look at, experience in Europe, club captain, creator and goal scoring midfielder. 27 so in his prime.
You get a few of these guys and then you do player trading with Gassama's, etc around players like him. We need to go after a few club captains this window and players with a bit of a fk you attitude.

Olaru would have been an excellent signing for Rangersv.
