EHL
If we were to sell Raskin this summer, I pray to God we don't, but if we do, could Barron step up to replace him as they are both similar, or do you think we would have to sign a replacement? Just think if we sold Raskin there are definitely other areas needing reinforcements in the short term.

Barron is developing really well as a 6, and I hope we sign an experienced 6 to help his and Rices development.
Raskin is an outstanding 8 who will be very hard to replace - but we do have replacements identified for both Raskin and Dio.

I know your asking EHL but i don't think barron has the quality going forward to contribute like raskin has recently. Thought barron has been playing well recently though and he's a very hard worker which is always appreciated.

Raskin signs or is sold. We cannot let him run down the contract. If sold he will probably net us 12m and that would be huge for a rebuild. For those who don't know the ffp formula, and on the basis new owner do come in….
£12m would enable (ffp wise) a few signings. Say £48m worth. that's because signings are amortised on the books over the length of their contract. So a £12m signing on a 4 year contract for example would be a £3m ffp consideration each of these 4 years.
It's for that reason that a team getting new investment absolutely must sell some of what they can in order to be able to open the cheque book. No matter how deep the owners are willing to empty their pockets. It's why Newcastle will probably cash in on isak and others. It enables big spending to kick start a project.

Did you watch the match today? Barron in games like this is a waste of a shirt. We need midfielders that can do what Barron does (break up play, follow runners etc) but we also need them to be bow to retain possession, and pick the right pass.
Maybe he will develop into this but atm shouldn't be a 1st team regular, we need better. And btw that includes Raskin. We also need better than him.
Yes he has been one of the better players this year but he is the best of an extremely bad bunch.

I really hope we can keep raskin but iv a feeling he. ll go to England i just hope we get his real value.

I see amortisation being referenced a lot - I'm not so sure it's a route we'll go down.

Wow Zikos. Your a hard one to please ?
Think Raskin is doing very well, up there with, if not, the, best in Scotland at what he does just now. We will honestly struggle to get better than him in the foreseeable future unless we are willing to destroy our new wage/ transfer structure, you could be in for a few disappointing years I'm afraid. I didn't see the game today, was working so I can't comment on todays performance. ??
GRG you actually answered a question for me too that I was going to ask, I've no idea how ffp works in the long term, that is interesting reading, so if your right and we were hypothetically to sell, Raskin, iga and say Danilo and we brought in 25+ million, that would enable up to spend up to 100 million if we signed players on 4 year contracts, this confuses the life out of me.
17 May 2025 17:37:41
EHL I'm totally lost regarding it all, it baffles me. I assumed if we sold somebody for 10 million, that would allow us to spend 10 million on top of what we already had to spend ??♂️.
{Ed001's Note - it can't do as you don't get anything like 10m from a 10m sale. For starters, players get 5% of a transfer fee unless they have submitted a written transfer request. Then there is 5% that is shared between the youth teams that a player was developed in. Agent fees. Solicitor fees. Taxes. And more too come out of the fee.}

Yeah very hard to please ?!
The lad is good, but we need better. He would do as a 6 but not an 8. We need midfielders that control a midfield.
If we can't control the midfield in games then we will continue to have seasons like this I'm afraid where we give opponents far too many chances to play and score against us.
There is a reason Celtic score so many goals and concede so few goals - they don't give the opposition the ball. Where's we treat it like a hot potato!
17 May 2025 17:55:04
Give the Guy, it's a complicated and messy business and one that's further compounded by the fact that more often than not the number quoted aren't accurate.
For the amortisation option, a club can spread the upfront cost for a player over the duration of the contract.
This helps if you are over the permitted spend, however it's not something that is definitively done by clubs - as it's spreads the cost out over years, therefore reducing what you can spend in future years.
I think we'll probably stick to phased payments with those being reflected on the account when paid.

I don't think we're far away in terms of middle of park, when we play teams who we are expected to beat I think it looks worse because opponents play direct and bypass the midfield, long ball against us, since we are a very soft touch in defence we struggle to cope and are losing so many chances.
Games where we play teams at out level of slightly better I actually think we do ok, games against Celtic, and some of our European games, I don't think we've struggled to control them, I can't think of a game where I'd say people have run over the top of us.
I think if we can sort our defence out properly, it'll help results. Our midfield can't contribute when teams bypass them. When we have the ball, we have it for long spells, but we can't seem to break teams down for whatever reason, I think out problem is more being creative in centre of park, just my thoughts anyway.

?
Ed001 - muddied waters more for me ??♂️?.
{Ed001's Note - exactly, it is complicated.}
17 May 2025 18:21:35
Only issue with that logic is we play 40+ games a season where the level is lower than ours and we're not able to find a way to beat them on several occasions, and when we do we scrape by them.
It's simply not good enough, but hopefully these issues get resolved over the summer by the new coaching team.

Fingers crossed mate.

So price you get for the player less all the payments needed to be made less the written down value on the player in our books. Ignoring the 5% we buy someone for £10M on a 4 year deal. each year 2.5M is written down on his value. we then sell the player for £10M after 2 years so we can then show a £5M plus value on books (£10M less 2x£2.5M amortisation)
{Ed001's Note - not really, that is not what you would end up with at all.}
