According to sky's mark benstead there's definitely interest from rangers in hearts striker lawrence shankland according to what he's been told ?He also says he's led to believe the transfer is doable this window and the fee is not unsurmountable but rangers have to get players out the door and wages freed up ?He also states rangers would obviously have to give hearts time to replace shankland should rangers agree a fee with hearts, so hearts would look for this to be done with plenty of time to spare for them to replace him ? Benstead finally says shankland is wanted by most involved with the recruitment side but there's still one or two who are not ?% sure they should go for shankland and possibly maybe sign another striker ? Very interesting fellow bears ?.

SWS i have twice in the last 3 weeks posted that Shankland will be signed.

Can quite confidently say Shankland won’t be signed. Personally don’t want him slow as a week in the jail.

I really hope we do manage to get this one over the line Sir Walter. Thank you for sharing such fine news on this freezing cold night. That cheered me up ??.

Shankland isn’t coming this window. Hopefully he plays for them in the cup this weekend and finally shuts the door on everyone talking about him. If Rangers wanted him and were willing to pay what hearts want it would be done by now.

I believe we will sign Lawrence shankland.
I have no knowledge other than here and press.
But my gut is that we will sign him for £3m and a player, maybe on loan, like Devine.
Or king, or maybe a cifuentes on loan.
But I believe we’ll get him. Then if we win the league, which I’m not sure we will, we can budget for next season and bring in a top drawer striker with shanks playing back up.

17 Jan 2024 23:32:12
As mentioned . unless we sell a couple of players/ free up wages, we won't be signing Shanks this window. Reckon Hearts would sell for approx 3.5m, but we spent a good amount in the summer on players (other than Butland and Sterling) who currently haven't been good enough.

7.) 18 Jan 2024
17 Jan 2024 23:34:41
how many people are involved in the recruitment side. surely its the manager, scouts and bisgrove, maybe bennet at a push. if there is more than that then no wonder we can't get any business done.

Oh no he wont, Hearts is his limit and he knows it. or at least should do .

Seems to me our ability to bring folk in depends on large part on moving others on. And while I see us being linked with all sorts of players, I don't see many other clubs being linked with the likes of Davies and Matondo etc. here's hoping Lammers might have freed up wages for a striker, as I really think we need to strengthen there. I'd certainly take Shankland for c£2.5m as I think he'd guarantee a good return at least donestically, and goals win games. Another winger would also be good to fill out the squad.

Davies and Ridvan would need replaced if they go, but aren't positions needing immediately filled if not I suppose.

Boyd was slow still bagged a phenomenol amount of goal he's a top striker shankland would take us to the next level, n he honestly ain't that slow.

Matondo, Jones, O Halloran, and Usain Bolt are all lightning but they won’t score as many as Shankland. He doesn’t need to be fast when he knows how to finish.

What's Shankland's european record like?
Are we really going to buy a guy that looks good at hearts for what 3-4 mill.
We need a young and upcoming lad from either europe or south america
one that has raw talent, fits our style of play, and can be developed, then sold on for a profit.
We are potentially playing for a UCL group spot if we win the league.
Shankland will do zilch in the UCL, doubt he is even good enough for the Europa groups.
We are already carrying enough passengers.
If we have money to burn on Shankland, we should be going for Sima permanently, far more potential and resale value, and he has been pretty good in europe, for us and Slavia.
Brighton have to pay another 4 mill for Sima if he hits the conditions agreed in the contract, they paid 8, so 12 mill all up.
He has a year left after our loan, likely why he has been loaned out to avoid the extra add on money.
4-5 mill get him permanently, he is worth 7 mill now.

Shankland or Sima, who would you choose.
Not Shankland for me.

15.) 18 Jan 2024
18 Jan 2024 03:54:16
His pace is irrelevant domestically, not needing 3/ 4 touches before shooting in the box or consistent Dragging the ball back to a stronger foot is why he’s required, instinctive finisher.

16.) 18 Jan 2024
18 Jan 2024 03:59:18
Our manager said signings are close he never mentioned anything about having to get guys out the door.

Shankland? Who's that? Never heard of him on here.

18 Jan 2024 05:54:47
We need a top class striker shanklands it and if in our team in europe I think he would score
The guys scored goals for scotland
And against celtic

So honestly shankland as I think he will score more goals .

Too sima is class too.

19.) 18 Jan 2024
18 Jan 2024 06:38:38
I think he he signed for rangers he would only get better, as everywhere he has played he's improved,

I think he would do a cracking job for us domestically and in europe too if he has the chance, he would thrive,
W.

20.) 18 Jan 2024
18 Jan 2024 06:42:51
IMO I don’t think we should be signing a striker go is 4 th choice for Scotland in a position they are poor in for goal scorers.

18 Jan 2024 07:29:06
Jeez get up 2 another Shankland post, getting tedious now. If he signs we will get, i told u so's and i was right u were wrong all day 2. Just wait and see, 2 much second guessing, 2 much twisted knickers too, take a breath guys n have patience. ?.

Laudrup Hagi

Why wouldn’t we pay £3/ 4m for a guy playing for hearts, as u out it, or any other spl team?

We’ve missed out on some cracking players in our own league through that type of snobbery mate.
Embarrassing mindset.

Ferguson,
Porteous,
Mcginn,
Doig,
Hickey,
Robbo,

Every single one of which would be in the first 2/ 3 names on our team sheet with Butland and tav.

Then u have players like Scott brown who cost £4.4m went to Celtic and had an illustrious career.

Terrible mindset to have mate.

Lastly, sima cost £7m not £8m for Brighton. I’m not aware of add ins but he won’t be meeting them as he’s not played a competitive game for Brighton that I’m aware of.
He has one year left on a dear come summer, we’d get him for £4m maybe £5m at a push.
Their dof was only talking him up last week to try drum up interest and get max fee for him.
He’s never playing for Brighton that’s for sure.

Don't think I've seen a more divided opinion on one player????
As if my opinion matters but I'm right on the fence with this one.
R. I. P Joey Veerhman/ Jake Cooper??.

18 Jan 2024 08:20:44
Charlie Chalk loyal, it didn't do kris boyd any harm on scoring goals in scotland for rangers and not being a regular striker in the scottish national team ?.

25.) 18 Jan 2024
18 Jan 2024 08:54:45
I hope we don’t sign Shankland, he’s not of the standard we require to win big games, as a poster said yesterday about a player ( shankland) is a journeyman player who has played for small clubs all his career and at 28 he’s to old . For goodness sake aim higher, there is bound to be young players in Europe who would dive at playing for Rangers and they wouldn’t cost 3.5 million, debate that?

26.) 18 Jan 2024
18 Jan 2024 08:57:20
Reading some of the posts on here, it's crystal clear that some folk are suffering from football snobbery. Not good enough? Not Rangers class? Give me a break. Bet you all said the same about the likes of Ferguson when he left Aberdeen. Shankland will score goals for us, there is no doubt of that. That's what we need. We aren't signing a so called top class striker, we can't afford that. We will sign the player (s) we need for right now and move forward, if that's Shankland then we will all support him.

27.) 18 Jan 2024
18 Jan 2024 09:22:51
He’s scored against us, many against Them and winners in Edinburgh derbies, also scored for Scotland with very little mind on park, I dunno what bigger games he can score in, maybe he should become a pitch invader and do it in an even bigger game

Done it in the biggest games he has had the fortune of playing in under pressure.

Nope still not happening, actually he's only slow over the first 10 yards then gets some steam up . like a tractor or hippo for example.

18 Jan 2024 10:02:21
None a them are strikers lol.

31.) 18 Jan 2024
18 Jan 2024 10:06:47
Good post StevieG2. I agree with most of what you say and I would really like us to sign Lawrence Shankland. However, Hearts always play hardball (Lafferry and Souttar spring to mind) and I’m just not sure I’d be comfortable paying £4m for him when he’s only got 18 months left on his contract and he’s in his late 20s. £2m to £2.5m at a push is where I’d be comfortable.

32.) 18 Jan 2024
18 Jan 2024 10:07:49
Has he not long scored a hat trick against Celtic?

How many players can say that over the last 100 years?

33.) 18 Jan 2024
18 Jan 2024 10:11:14
LaudrupHagi and carrick - I agree with you in principle that we should he hoping to find South American gems who are young and have sell on value etc but how many of those signings are actually going to work out. Ced Itten: 2-3mill didn’t work. Lammers 3mill didn’t work. Roofe great player but always injured. Morelos wonderful at his peak but that peak was rather short lived.

As we’ve seen with many foreign players (especially young lads) they can take a long time to bed in - if they even bed in at all.

Shankland has a great injury profile, has a tremendous goal scoring record, doesn’t rely on blistering pace (how effective is blistering pace against low blocks anyway? ), HAS scored big goals (first player since the 80s to score a hat trick domestically against Celtic I believe - consistently scores against them, has scored against us, has a good scoring record in Europe for hearts) and is ONLY 28. How can you say 28 is too old? Players are playing longer than ever now it’s not the 70s when folk were done by 29-30. We could easily get 20 goals a year minimum out of him for 3 years…that’s well worth a million a year in terms of a transfer fee.

34.) 18 Jan 2024
18 Jan 2024 11:09:58
Fans saying we need a top class striker and shankland is that he is not a top class striker he can’t get I the starting 11 for Scotland and Scotland have not got one top class striker. Let’s not get carried away here. Shanks would probably do us a turn but he isn’t top class.

35.) 18 Jan 2024
18 Jan 2024 11:12:22
Coops what did boyd do against Celtic? One goal in a game when league was already won and what did he do in Europe?

36.) 18 Jan 2024
18 Jan 2024 11:16:17
People talk like Ryan porteous is nesta lol.

37.) 18 Jan 2024
18 Jan 2024 11:28:51
The way it is going we won't sign anyone this window and watch and see we will sell just before window closes and not enough time to get anyone else in. Then manager will come on and say we have to make do with what we have. What we have is not good enough. We can't even compete with Celtic too many players not realising what it means too play for Rangers and a Captain that is not a defender and should have been sold ages ago along with a few others.

38.) 18 Jan 2024
18 Jan 2024 11:31:39
Just maybe the player is happy where he is, this sometimes happens granted not a lot . Hearts wouldn't dare force him out as their fans are torn faced whingers as it is right now and that would not be nice to see if he left.

Are the Van Veen, Cosgrove crew on today?

39.) 18 Jan 2024
18 Jan 2024 12:57:59
Alot of people here would rather cut their nose of just to spite their face. "We need to aim higher" or "there's better out there". What if better doesn't mean hot the ground running and become a success at Ibrox? Say what you want about Shankland but the boy knows where the back of the net is and can hit the ground running in a league he's familiar with. We need to win the league this season, bringing in a player who can score goals in this league sounds like a pretty safe option to me to achieve that goal.

40.) 18 Jan 2024
18 Jan 2024 14:32:36
Ger88 what if we do buy him and he doesn’t hit the ground running and doesn’t score the gold we need?

41.) 18 Jan 2024
18 Jan 2024 14:59:35
What if what if what if. What if we blow our budget on some South American up and coming superstar who gets his leg snapped in the first game he plays and his career is over? There will always be someone around to post a negative comment about anything.
