We're now linked with former newcastle utd goalkeeper and current preston north end goalkeeper freddie woodman ? Don't know a great deal about how good he is but at £3.5million, surely jack butland would be the better option here ?.

A wee question fellow bears for each of us here?If and i state if there's any truth that the goalkeeper we wish to sign to replace allan mcgregor, is indeed freddie woodman who's valued at around £3.5million, surely jack butland would be the better signing as he's available for nothing and into the bargain i think butland is the better, more experienced goalkeeper ? What's all our thoughts on this taking everything into account who would be the better signing for us ie jack butland V freddie woodman ?.

Possibly that was who our scout was watching sws Butland would be a quality signing.

How many keepers is that we've been linked with now? I've lost count?!

I would go for Butland, even if he costs slightly more in wages, no fee involved plus better of 2 plus more experience, woodman still to prove himself at higher level.

Butland needs to want to come to the backwater that is Scotland.

Would be happy to have either of them as I'm sure their will be plenty interest in both GKs.
Haven't seen much of them lately but definitely have good reputations and are at good age.

He possibly will John he can't even get on the bench now.

Sws that Preston keeper is meant to have epl clubs looking at him and young for a keeper.

Just to throw it out there as a possibility; yes Butland is available ok a free. But as far as his ability goes (in that he's never seemed to reach the potential that he was always talked of as having) . What we see now, if and when he plays. Is about as good as youll get. Woodman might cost us 3.5m…. But the lads 25, And has 10 years in him yet. Mclaughlin isn't good enough either, and for whatever reason Mcrorie isn't trusted.

Could we be bringing in 2 keepers with the intention that they keep each other on their toes and maybe shagger stays on as a coach?

I think McCrorie will get a chance when he's back fit, yes Butland had the potential to be a world class keeper Darth but he is still a quality keeper, this keeper from Preston could be the same don't get epl clubs watching you in your not a good keeper.

SWS I get what you mean save the fee for a luxury player. I would go with butland if he would come as 29 so good age as he could play for next what 5 years so would give stability. Think Woodman will be an excellent keeper but would rather keep the fee and bring in a solid outfield player.

Beale56. I don't disagree at all. Aside while injured, i don't get why Mcrorie hasn't had more opportunities, unless the powers that be don't see his future at the club. Which is a shame if that's the case because when called upon he's proved his worth as certainly at least a number 2. wouldn't complain with either of Woodman or Butland tbh. But i get the feeling Butland might cost us that same 3m if not more over the course of his contract while retaining little if any sell on value. Woodman is the age where we’d aim to be backing him to be the no1 for at least the next 5 years and should he leave in that time would prove an investment.

For all we know, Butland might look at Hart across the city whose career was going nowhere and decide to come up here.

He must rate him Darth or why give him another deal.

The defence needs to get better as well. Buying just a new goalkeeper won't sort this sorry mess out.

Were not going to shell out 3.5 mill on a keeper.

Shoot me down lads but knowing the wages may make it a no go, why don't we try and get Aribo back?
He must be hating it at Soton and i'd imagine would jump at an exit outta there.

Is it Beale giving out the contracts or Wilson mind? If it was the manager then great, but have to say i have very little confidence in that being the case, or quite what's going on in Wilsons head being founded in reality. Have to agree that i find it hard to believe Wilson will sanction 3m+ on a keeper… but he's spent that on guys that barely get to touch a ball (see matondo) .
At least if we did have the cash put aside for Sands and Tillman’s buyout clauses then there's the thick end of 5m extra to spend this summer.
For the record, i'd like to see Mcrorie get a run in the team when he's back fit. The leagues basically done, keep shagger sharp and play him in the cup, but get the young lad some game time.

Mcgrorie signed another contract before Beale was here Darth but our club must rate him.

I rate Woodman. Was decent when on loan at Killie as a younger boy. We desperately need a keeper who can use his feet and has a presence.

21.) 02 Mar 2023
02 Mar 2023 15:49:24
Butland has to be the target with the new Financial rules in place we have to use the funds wisely and too the Maximum which leads to Tillman I don't think the club will activate the clause I don't think currently he would be worth paying £5-£6m that fee alone would say No especially if we're going to be having a overhaul of the squad but I could be wrong.

22.) 02 Mar 2023
02 Mar 2023 22:28:46
We won't spend 3.5m on a keeper it'll be a free signing this board have demonstrated they don't want to spend anymore money for a rebuild so we'll only spend what we bring in after the 76m still owed in loans has been carved into.

23.) 03 Mar 2023
03 Mar 2023 01:14:59
We are idiots if we fork out 3.5 million for a nobody wants keeper in the over inflated English league we need to be looking abroad.

They only time we should be shopping in the English market is if it's a freebie and even then we should be weighing up if the higher wage is worth it.

What’s mcgregor coaching? To never leave his goaline.

I would gladly take either of the keepers mentioned and I believe that both Wilson and Beale would be delighted if we acquired one of them. Unfortunately I don't believe that the decision will rest with them and if it is down to Parks then we can forget it!
We need to bring in at least four quality outfield players and a keeper, we will probably lose Kent and Morelos and we need to bite the bullet on guys like Davis, Arfield, McGregor, Helander and Jack and move on, but these guys will all take some replacing.
If we could get decent money for Hagi, Kamara, Colak, Roofe and Fashion I would move them all on and let Beale and Wilson have the funds to do a fundamental rebuild! That would mean us needing a greater number of new players but for an array of reasons I don't see any of them being massively important players for us if we really do want to win the league!

I believe Butland on a free would be our best option.
