Why is the transfer window so long?
Is there a particular reason.
I almost think it could be halved.

OT, I can see the logic behind that, but the problem is that other leagues start later than ours, so clubs there can take longer to decide which players they actually want to keep in their squads.
If our window closed at the same time as the season started, we'd potentially miss out on a lot of players who only become available later in the window, once those clubs have made their own decisions.
A number of the players we sign late are likely available precisely because another club has decided they aren't part of their plans.
So, aligning the windows sounds sensible in theory, but in practice it could put us at a disadvantage because we'd be forced to make our decisions before clubs in other leagues have finished making theirs.
