To me whoever is really 'in charge' of recruitment at our club over the last 2 years has got 1 major thing spectacularly wrong. Every good manager knows that to build a winning team you start at the back and make sure we don't lose goals. Years ago after the Le Guen debacle the very first thing Walter did in his return was bring in defenders and made us difficult to score against. Cueller, Weir, Dailly, all immediately brought in.
Yet in the last two years, when it's been glaringly obvious we had issues at the back we've had last year, when most of the defence was made up with temporary loan signings who we knew would all leave at the end of the season (and really had no real buy in to the club as knew they wouldn't be here long term) and this year where we have been 'happy' to go with the bare minimum of defenders until the last few weeks of the transfer window, by which time injuries have left us in an utterly shambolic state at the back and scrambling for cover at the last minute.
As soon as the transfer window was open the priority should have been 3 CB's and a first choice right back, then bring in a back up left back. It just seems so utterly naive.

💯 Total negligence in this area.
Demonstrated spectacularly when we sold both Jefte and Ridvan and left us with no right back.

Good post Gers.

Horrific planning & execution by the current recruitment regime, hopefully rumours of Thelwell Jr & Purdy getting hooked are true. 🙏🙏

We have brought in 3 defenders. Just because we haven't signed a new backup LB and starting RB yet doesn't mean they haven't been prioritised. Could also be that deals have fallen through, medicals failed etc.

Good post, mate. Even us, the supporters, knew what was needed. The recruitment has been nothing short of a total shambles. Hopefully some of the players we've brought in this summer will settle and play.

Huey, my point is, look at what we have brought in, and when, for what is probably the most important area of the team. McCrorie, basically a back up, certainly not a first choice RB or CB. Godfrey, a sick note waiting to happen. And the South African might be a good player, but brought in so late that he wasn't able to play until the 3rd competitive game and hasn't had any chance to get to know team mates or build relationships.
Are you seriously saying you are ok with all that???

McCrorie ain't of the quality even for a back up.

Spot on Gers. 👏👏

The thing is, it isn't just us experiencing this. Other clubs have injuries, other clubs are bringing in players later in the window. It would have been ideal if we had got all our business done before a ball was kicked, but it doesn't work like that.
