Good morning everyone.
Does anyone think D McInness has been 'sold a pup'? I might be reading too much into it, but I just can't shake this feeling that he was sold the dream, which at this point, is not what he was promised.
I like Derek, and always have(Aberdeen days aside). I met him when he was a Rangers player and he was a decent lad, who was so proud to play for us.
Maybe I'm putting 2 and 2 together and getting 5, but for me, there is real frustration coming from him, and i believe this all stems from what he signed on for, to where he finds himself right now.
At the end of the day, the guy gave up a great job as part of a club who look as if they know what they're doing, and who have a decent transfers strategy in place - for me, he would have had to be promised a lot to give that up. I mean, he'd already turned us down before because he wasn't given the assurances he needed to sign for us.
Following on from yesterday's AI chat, I should maybe ask Claude, eh?! 🤣

I just think it's becoming increasingly difficult to attract decent players to the football backwater that is the SPL, hence the reason we need to offer inflated wages and long contracts to players that turn out to be nothing more than average.

SS, I've been having the exact same thoughts, you can tell in his interviews that he's getting increasingly frustrated at lack of transfer activity.

Or, Sunshine, maybe just maybe McInnes didn't want some of players that were in the middle of contract talks with us, like it's been stated on here. I think it was 4 or 5 players he said he never wanted.
Maybe just maybe that is the hold up on new signings! Not to mention he's spent more on 3 players with us than he has in his full 17 years career as manager in Scotland.

We are probably reaping the rewards of finishing third best in the 32nd best league.
If we were talking to targets and they watched us in that title run-in, then you can hazard a guess at how we looked, from potential Champ League qualification to third and going to struggle to get into Europa.

I totally agree, Coully. What decent player, worth his salt, would want to come to us after the season we've just had? If we want quality, we'd need to throw money at them to attract them, and that is just not happening.
I honestly think we are seen as a bit of a desperate case when selling and buying players, which teams will try to exploit.
They know we need money, so will under bid for our assets. Or, when we want to buy, stick an inflated price on in the hope our desperation will mean our heart rules our head.

I think, and only my opinion here, the club were maybe possibly relying on bids coming in for Raskin, maybe Chermiti, Fernandez, Aasgaard, and were hoping the sales would fund a transformation of the team.
But then again, maybe I'm wrong.
Couple posters now have mentioned Derrick himself turned his nose up at a couple of players and decided to go for a coupe who've already came in.
And if true, Diomande was on his way out and DM persuaded him to stay. 🙈 Not sure how true that is though?
