Amidst all the JHD speculation, i think reading between the lines that an agreement has allegedly been reached with the player, whilst his club are looking for more cash. This appears to be the situation cited by most media outlets here and abroad. Is this scenario possible though? His club Tromso must have agreed to us entering into negotiations, or have i got this wrong? I'm guessing that outside of an iminent deal being announced, that the best indicator of us getting this over the line will be his omission or inclusion from his current club's European squad as this would mean he'd be unable to play for us for a few rounds.
Would we be happy with that scenario given that we are allegedly paying a hefty transfer fee.

We can negotiate with players without having agreed a fee as long as we have permission from the club, otherwise he could say no after a fee is agreed without negotiations. I'm not sure how the qualifying rounds work with that, but we'd have him back for the group games if we get there.
Would I be happy paying a hefty fee if we can't use him in Europe? Yes, as he'll have good sell on potential & he's exactly the type of midfielder we need.

Typically, the selling club and player agents will agree the fee, which will be discussed with potential buying clubs.
Once it gets to the point of the two clubs negotiating, these tend to revolve around the structure of the deal and the wider package, including add-ons.
