Whatever the way forward for Rangers is on the park we need to get back to our routes and stop the snobbery around Scottish players penrice mulligan Ferguson and shankland were over looked through thinking lower league players from England suited us better ? that's not worked out at all the 49ers have a lot to learn about the Scottish football and Rangers there are no successful teams here without Scottish players as the core of their squad. i hope in the summer watt is signed mulligan is signed penrice is signed and if some sort of deal for Ferguson can be done we make it happen. of we don't sign the best from our league like we always have there will be nothing but heart break and failure moving forward and seasons like this one have killed us all inside getting close gave us yet more false hope.

As for the manager for me Rohl is a coach of decent standing but it not the leader of men a club like Rangers need imo he needs to leave and someone like mcinnes or Muscat needs signed up if non of they 2 can be agreed. i would rather have someone whos worked in Scotland and knows the leagues over some random lower league coach like Rohl or russell martin tbh I've very worried about the Americans know how of running a football team the 49ers don't win anything very often leeds don't either they need to learn that won't cut it here.

Anyway rant over ill be back now lads thanks for the nice messages a while back.

Let's look at Ally McCoist's tenure as manager. He was Scottish, he had Scottish coaches like Durrant. He had Scottish players who were Rangers fans. He signed some of the best players in the country who had been nominated for PFA POTY: Ian Black, Nicky Law, Dean Shiels, etc. We were absolutely rubbish.

You talk as if having Scottish guys in charge, or part of the squad, is a guarantee of success.

It's not. In fact, we used to have a saying as Rangers fans - 'Sign SPFL garbage, become SPFL garbage'. We swore not to spend in Scotland again and to look abroad where there was more ability and better value.

We have now come full circle. Like a dog chasing its tail.

Never heard a single Rangers fan say that "saying" sounds made up to me, mate.

Stop going on with the Ally comparison. It's apples to oranges. Lewis Ferguson is in a different stratosphere to Ian Black!
Shankland or Kevin Kyle. We have money now. We didn't then. We should and can be getting the best Scottish players.

Well said, Blue, exactly what I was thinking.

Muscatin, please explain to me how Muscat is this leader of men with a great knowledge of Scottish football, he spent one season here 20odd years ago and since has coached at other end of the world at a much lesser level than Russell Martin who also played for us.

I know there's the Ange comparisons but he's not done anything in Europe or Britain to say he knows our football and has far less experience. It isn't even going that well for him at the moment either.

It's not snobbery and it doesn't matter where they are from.

11 May 2026 19:06:42
Kaiser, if you know anything about Muscat you know he demands respect, he's known for being no nonsense. I'm pretty sure he's won more than Ange and plays a slightly more attacking brand of football, something we sadly miss at Ibrox these days. Our recent managers have shown far too much respect to other teams up here.

Good post, Muscat, and nice to see you back. I want rid of Rohl. It would be Gerrard or McInnes for me. ?

11 May 2026 19:28:42
Almost every Rangers fan said it, Muscatin2. In fact, the exact phraseology used was harsher. So harsh, I wouldn't get away with typing it in here. But you get the gist of the sentiment, that's the most important thing.

Kyle Jon Daly, David Templeton, Sandaza, Michael O'Halloran, etc. The list of players we signed from SPFL clubs that were utter dross goes on and on. For years we signed the best SPL players, and for years they failed. The sentiment was very much that we could get better value for less money elsewhere, and we did.

We brought Morelos here for £1m shortly after Warburton got sacked and he's one of the best value signings we ever made.

Also, the other guy above is saying Ian Black was no good. He was nominated for Scotland's POTY when we signed him. So were Nicky Law, Dean Shiels and no doubt more of these duds that I can't remember or have blacked out. They were considered to be some of the best players in Scottish football yet they were utter dross. So signing the best of the rest isn't exactly an exact science. I know because I seen us try it and it failed.

That's your opinion, Strom. That being said, name me one successful Scottish team that didn't have a core of Scottish players in it? There isn't one.

Not convinced on Gerrard myself, Mayo, but he's a far better option than those we've had this season.
