It's came up a couple of times now so interested in others opinions. Who had the best squad to work with to start with, Gerrard or who Danny inherited? Gerrards Team had McGregor Wallace Barasic Goldson Katic Worrall a younger Tav, Jack Davis Arfield Kent Windass Candeias Morelos and Defoe and others I've forgotten.
Not having a go at either manager just interested in opinions. For me Gerrards squad is better in just about every position despite costing far less than we spent this season.

Gerrard's team never had those players.
Gerrard signed those players.
The squad Gerrard inherited was abysmal, so the answer is Dr inherited a better squad.

Yep SG signed those players. SG had a massive gap to close on Celtic. Danny doesn't.

Gerrard was at Rangers for 3 years and signed 60+ players (many of whom were absolutely rotten). That boy from Croatia we signed, Grezda, must be up there with some of the worst signings we've ever made.
Millions spent on that lad.
Rohl has been here 6 months and signed 4 players.
You cannot compare both because Rohl hasn't even been given a fair crack at it yet.

Agree, Stevie G and Windy.
The year before sg took over, we had been knocked out of Europe by Progres Niederkorn in the Europa Cup.
dr took over a team that beat Panathinaikos fairly comfortably in the Champions League qualifiers.
(That's just one example).

The squad Gerrard took over from was the previous seasons, and, yes, was abysmal, but he never had to work with them, as he signed his own team. Though some of that squad was still better than this. The players I listed were the team he started with and also in line with what others said about the amount spent in comparison with both teams.
So, again, with what they had to work with, Gerrard's squad was better than this one.

Perhaps I just phrased the question wrong.

Rohlwithcheese, you have quoted the figure of 60+ Gerrard signings more than once on here. Can I ask where you get that figure? He signed 22 permanent signings in 3 years, and 12 loan signings from what I can see. That's an average of 5 signings per transfer window during his tenure.

Even if we discount those he signed. McGregor, Wallace, a younger Tav, Jack, Arfield, Windass, Candeias, and Morelos were all there before him and would still walk into the team Danny inherited.

A quick look on transfer market says 47 players signed by Gerrard, awg72, though could include a couple twice like Hagi and Kent loans then buys. And don't think it includes young players he signed. Couldn't be bothered checking all the names, mate. ?
