John27 coplandfront beale have you guys heard anything about defensive targets because the day wasn't good the defence is the weakest part of the team and need to be sorted before champions league qualifiers.

Have to strongly agree the defence is not looking good. Style of play all over the park seems disjointed and we seriously lack pace. Not sure if it’s all the changes and not settled etc? Time will tell.

Defence has been shocking pre season definitely need another solid CB we can rely on, balogun maybe good as a back up but no good enough to start imo.

Nizzy, it was a makeshift defence today. Souttar, Davies didn't travel because of a sickness bug and Goldson not due back for another few weeks so let's not get too critical.

All our centre backs were missing so that some excuse but space behind the full backs is a real worry . Yilmaz had a horror show today and showed defensively that he is every bit as bad as Barisic without the compensation of being s decent crosser of the ball.

A lot of posters should take note, Goldson is regularly slated on here. He’s not played a single minute this pre season and we’ve been defensively a shambles every single game.
Beale knows we need a new CB but we won’t get a key target unless Davies goes, which is highly unlikely.

People get stars in Thier eyes and think flashy forwards rather than the same defense that's been giving us the fear being sorted sakala and colak were not bad by any means and so far (early days) colak looking better option than dessers ?
Too early to judge though so I'll wait before full assessment.

Reality of the situation is that we currently have 3 right backs, 2 left backs and 6 centre backs in the first team squad.
Surely we can't keep signing players without moving some on? Even if it's loaning out the likes of Devine, King or Yfeko.

We won’t play 352, signed too many attacking players! I fully expect lammers, Dessers, Danilo to be starting every game giving the fees. That would leave space for only 2 cms. Raskin cifuentes and Cantwell will also start every game. I agree it would make us better at the back but we are signing players to fit the current tactic. Yilmaz will come good and cb I’ll be sorted when Goldson and souttar are back. Like cf5 says we will only sign another cb if we ship Davies out although highly unlikely. which is a shame!

Formation looking that narrow nobody hitting the byline movement that bad and that slow yilmaz Tav not getting forward.
And I don't get why Tav escaping criticism because of his pens his defending is horrendous the amount of times they got in behind him was laughable.
Scottish teams will love how narrow we are and we will struggle to break teams down unless there is a big improvement in the tempo of our play.
It is early days but right now my starting lineup if fit v killie would be

Danillo
Lammers looks like he could play the CF role no problem his movement and work rate look great and sakala needed for his pace. danilo needs the games before Europe comes around.

We played back 3 towards the end of the Newcastle game and again towards the end of the Hannover but I think that's more just down to personnel on the field at the time.
We'll play a mix between 4312 and 433 in the league and play 4231 in Europe which I do think will do a lot better when we have a natural box to box CM like cifuentes.

We`ve not paid over £4million for Dessers to sit on the bench while Danilo starts . Beale wants to play both as twin strikers he just can`t understand that the best way to do it is three at the back and full backs giving width.

People are saying we don't have a quality CB to play in the back four but somehow think we are going to play a back three ?
He is aiming at a fluid formation where Tav and yilmaz act as wide midfield when attacking and someone like lundstrum or raskin drops in to cover making it a back three
The only problem is it looks like our players don't have the pace to worry defenders and let's them get back and settled we will struggle to break some teams down.

CallamR we’re not going to play 3 mf’s in the league and 3 in Europe mate if anything it would be the exact opposite. In Europe we would get tore apart with 2 mf’s and the defence we have.
We need to give our poor defence extra cover against better player not weaken them mate.

Stevie beale literally just said yesterday the way we set up in the 4231 is how we would be playing away in Europe? 4231 is probably the most secure formation defensively aswell as offering a decent attack. Reason it's the most used formation.
As for 3 CMs in the league ofcourse we will? Raskin playing 6 with Cantwell and Cifuentes on either side arriving late in the box or drifting out wide. Again reason why most offensive teams use a 3 midfield.

Well mate if we set up away to say the benficas psg Barcelona Real Madrid, city Liverpool Porto and so on with 2 central mf’s we will get done by 7/ 8/ 9 in some of they games.
And If we set up with 3 cm’s in Scotland we won’t score as many goals as Celtic over the season.
Goals win games.
If indeed this is what Beale said then I am not looking forward to the season mate.
