I admit I'm torn regarding PC. My simple question to Mystar, and other strong backers, is, when he was appointed last November if someone had told you even knowing we needed big rebuild and wage cut, we'd be going into this Xmas week 3rd and 2 points behind Aberdeen would you have viewed it as reasonable or acceptable?
20 Dec 2024 15:05:38
Kaiser the simple answer from me is acceptable. I believe if Souttar had been fit we would have beaten Celtic. I know a lot of posters on here don't count europe but I do, they are included in the big picture.
20 Dec 2024 15:09:58
Along as I seen improvement kaiser then yes.
20 Dec 2024 15:16:47
Kaiser, the honest answer is no.
However, I'd also say that supporting PC doesn't mean I accept our current league position.
20 Dec 2024 15:19:15
Your correct it's not acceptable Kaiser. Not only the position we are in but some of the football on show has been awful.
But when I think about why that is, I just cannot ignore the mess we have been in, both financially and from a club management side.
We have hardly been set up for success for any manager. Add to that the annual manager merry go round we have been on.
That's why I did not want another manager sacked.
With the performances over the last few weeks I am now more hopeful that PC is the man. But realise his job is still on a knife edge unless this improvement continues.
20 Dec 2024 15:32:50
Fair dos star, but if a year ago someone offered you 3rd place and you'd be happy then can't argue with that, just find it hard to believe. Is dropping from challenging to 3rd improvement? I do however tho remain hopeful that things will improve. As I say I'm torn.
20 Dec 2024 15:42:17
Time and transfer windows were always going to be what was needed. I was one of the backers and continue to back. We can only get better and it looks like we are getting there now.
20 Dec 2024 15:54:09
?Kaiser, what I'm talking about is improvement now, he lost more than half his team from last season, maybe you don't like hearing this but it's a different teams this season and new players only in a few months, by the way not his 1st or 2nd or even 3rd choice signins but players within our small budget.
20 Dec 2024 15:56:44
Another couple of windows and we'll improve drastically as a team.
20 Dec 2024 15:58:27
Kaiser here's one for you then. Do you think we will be third in the league? Do you think we will gain points on Celtic in 2nd half of season? We are currently 2 points behind Aberdeen with a game in hand and they haven't won in their last 5 so there is a fair chance we will start the new year ahead of them. Hopefully that's us had our poor form for the season, things can change quickly.
20 Dec 2024 15:59:24
I wanted rid but there had been improvement but at the end if the day we have only won the games we have been expecting to win in this improvement. Draw against spurs and a defeat (not a draw) against them. He really does need to beat them and very soon. Give him till the summer needs to win Scottish cup and needs to get closer in terms of points to Celtic.
20 Dec 2024 16:02:29
Kaiser, no 3rd isn’t acceptable but I believe we’ll be 2nd by the turn of the year.
The performance in cup showed me PC is learning, and if we can progress in Europe (which I suspect will come down to USG game) then I am on board.
Equally if we can move on some of the squad, find a couple of new players (big hope would be finding money to do a Cerny deal), then I’d be doubly happy.
20 Dec 2024 16:16:21
I totally accept that from now moving forward but my question was about when he was appointed would we have looked at this as acceptable or an improvement despite the difficulties we faced. If at that press conference someone had said we'll be 3rd next xmas I certainly wouldn't have been happy. That's why I remain on the fence for now.
20 Dec 2024 16:28:59
Kaiser for us to decide that or me anyway, I would need to understand the process our manager was working under, we can't take away from the fact 6m was wiped from our wage budget in one window mate.
20 Dec 2024 16:42:51
Huey no problem happy to answer, I fully expect us to come 2nd but I'm also not going to celebrate or view us overtaking Aberdeen as a sign of success. That for me is bare minimum expectation. He's started to turn things around but we need to now keep up momentum and start to see consistency. It's a massive few weeks ahead.
20 Dec 2024 16:48:46
It was said pc needed 3 windows well this is his 3rd so let’s see what's the new yr brings.
not had much of a fighting chance transfer fund wise .
20 Dec 2024 16:53:26
I think I was always looking long term but never was sure what long term was. I think we had to get out of that cycle of sacking managers every year when we weren't challenging. that stopped us from setting up a process of buying players at the right age and selling for a profit. we had to spend on new '1st team ready' players who would immediately challenge and we all know how well that went.
I don't think we would be third if it wasnt for Aberdeen's above average start but mainly our injured players who seem to have prevented PC from playing the way he wants.
so in short if someone said you would be third but it will be short term and we will very soon be challenging Celtic again with a young team playing good football with a recruitment strategy which will reap rewards in years to come I think I would snatch your hand off if the alternative was being perennial runners up. The latter part I know hasn't and might not happen but we had to break that cycle. if it wasnt PC then it would have been someone else.
20 dec 2024 17:04:52
he has definitely improved the side recently and deserves to see the job through now.
20 Dec 2024 18:20:31
Only thing is Angus we WERE challenging as recent as last season and should probably have even won it. But I do accept that's a positive way to try and look at it. Appreciate your different points of views guys. Here's to a brighter future.
20 Dec 2024 18:22:41
We should go get mcinness he won his 4th game last week.
20 Dec 2024 18:30:08
agree Kaiser and we were challenging but we failed so something had to change and it had to be without throwing money we didn't have at it. I don't think we are there yet and there will still be bumps but I've always liked PCs views on the game and as I like a stat I like his post match interviews (throw grenade and stand well back ?)
20 Dec 2024 19:05:09
I agree with John and if we can’t get Mcinness we can always try Billy Davis.
20 Dec 2024 19:31:40
I’m not sure that was called for John,
I’m in agreement with My star for the time being.
20 Dec 2024 19:57:15
I admit I’m not the biggest fan of PC and I have been harsh but at the time we had been playing exceptionally poor. I also have to admit however that there has been improvement in the last few games and we were unlucky to beat them in the cup final. Looking at things now I admit I’ve been harsh and he does need a bit more time, the January transfer window and let’s see what new players comes in and how they adjust and fit into the team. I do agree with what storm says though he needs to beat them soon. No better time than the next OF @ Ibrox.
20 Dec 2024 20:12:06
Co2 well called for, I don’t go around calling people close or dog sn.
20 Dec 2024 20:22:41
John if people can't see what I thought was obviously sarcasm then we are lost.
20 Dec 2024 20:23:22
Actually thought that was funny John, very droll???.
20 Dec 2024 21:25:43
That was a joke by John ?♂️
Twacoos Billy is looking for a new job.
20 Dec 2024 22:30:31
Fair enough John,
I thought it was a sly dig at those that advocate Dell as our next manager but not sure what you’re referring to in your reply.
I realise it was sarcasm but not the best form of wit.
No harm done, I really respect your posts.
As I say, I’m in agreement with My Star and happy with big Phil given the improvement in the performances.
I’m not sure Pep could do better with us at the moment given the same conditions that Phil has had do deal with.
21 Dec 2024 08:06:24
What a great debate there rather than the constant slagging off . I'm another in the give him time camp, but decent viewpoint and we'll out across Kaiser. Aberdeen had a flying start and fixtures went in there way for phase 1, so from 10 points behind to 2 with a game in hand in about 3 weeks, we'll be 10 points at least in front of them. Celtic are just financially ahead of us now but these periods always end and Rogers will be away soon, he didn't stay and try and get 10 in a row, why would he stay for 5 or 6 in a row?
Finally shackled Mcgregor at weekend and made them look poor, all this Celtic were poor is toss, we made them look like that.
21 Dec 2024 08:19:23
I think that is the point CO2 it was a dig at Dell being our next manager.
BTW the Oscar Wilde full quote is "Sarcasm is the lowest form of wit, but the highest form of intelligence". most people only quote the first part to a sarcastic person.
21 Dec 2024 09:18:35
Well played Angus.
There's only 2 tragedies in life, one is not getting what you want and the other is getting it.
Think sometimes we must be careful what we wish for.
21 Dec 2024 13:20:26
Fair enough Angus.
