I think that football could take a lesson from rugby, in rugby when there is a var type incident you can hear all the officials talking and coming to a decision on the incident,

Yes and they also do it very well, fast and efficient and every decision is made to the letter of the law. Why they don't do it the same way is a mystery because it would be much more clearer for everyone.

I agree egg but I honestly don’t ever see football authorities allowing this to happen.

We can also hear the ref talking to players constantly which works in Rubgy but not sure footballers are ready for that!

On a plus note, it would also make the bile songs clear for all to hear and perhaps force the clubs into action.

100% mate. When the ref talks to the players he treats them as men and as equals. Refs in Scotland think they are like the police. Talking through the decision over the PA system keeps everything above board and would stop the lack of respect and distain that the referees pick up.

It would definitely be more transparent than it is now and there would be less chance of referees like Collum and Clancy influencing the game the way the like to.

I think the rules around handball need to be made much clearer as pundits are arguing over this every week - Not that there was any difficulty in last weeks handball of course.

The other thing is that the crowd at Rugby is very different and less aggressive than football so the referees would argue that the pressure would be much higher.

I definitely think it’s something they should work towards as it’s completely transparent.
They should start by making the audio from every match available to clubs.

Referees need to be accountable as well.
The SFA need to bin Collum as we have already complained about him and he continues to lose us points.
Llast week’s fiasco confirmed that it’s deliberate.

Could also use the 'time' system, clock stops at all hold ups and hooter blows at 45 minutes. Take the watch away from referees.

All day long. The same with the players surrounding the ref and having the award moved another 10 yards forward.

They have time scrambled egg. In football there seems to be a hell bent urgency to get VAR decisions done asap to keep the game flowing. Its a difficult balance if the VAR decision is taking time everyone is complaining, if their quick and get it wrong all hell brakes loose. However I agree we can take some lessons on the professionalism of the participants and officials in most other sports.

Overall rugby has a far better system but it’s not without its challenges. It can take a lot of time to make some calls but at least generally they are the right calls.

The rugby equivalent of footballs handball inconsistency is head contact. The World Cup showed inconsistency in a number of games and interpretation of direct head contact, Scotland being on the receiving end of a poor decision so rugby isn’t flawless either.

In Scotland we have introduced VAR poorly and the quality of officials makes it even worse. For example, some of the camera angles being used are ridiculous for things like offside as the cameras are not in the correct place or there aren’t enough cameras, Motherwell game for instance.

Bar rigby do that but stop the clock when reviewing decisions and when ball is out of play that’s never going to happen in football.
